Ski Vacations

california-map When you first hear about California, some of the things that come to mind are surfboards, Mickey Mouse and warm sunshine… unless of course you’re a ski fanatic. If you love the snow, California literally has got you covered. On average the ski resorts here get about 400 inches of snow during a season… that’s 400 inches of pure white fluff, which gives you plenty of reasons to swoosh and cut down the slopes. Now when you hear about California, you’ll think of Mickey Mouse in his own pair of ski boots.

Mount Shasta

As one of California’s most recent additions to their ski repertoire, Mount Shasta is quite the experience for those that love the outdoors. Whether you prefer to make your way down the slopes by ski or board, the trails are amazing. Fantastic chairlifts and snowmaking machines also add to a great Mount Shasta experience. When you need a break from swooshing, you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery on the very cool snowshoe and snowmobile trails.

Heavenly

Go between Cinderella and Elvis’ turf at this great ski location. The 85 runs and 29 lifts cross over both California and Nevada. In fact, the Heavenly Ski Resort spreads over more than 4,500 acres. It also has the highest mountain in all of Lake Tahoe. What does that mean for you? Trails and more trails. And the added bonus here is that the snow fairy dumps more than 350 inches of snow each year.

Squaw Valley

With more than 4,000 acres of ski terrain, Squaw Valley is definitely one of the best places to perfect your slalom. Although the Winter Olympics were held here more than 40 years ago, it’s still one of America’s most famous ski locations. After a great day on the slopes, you’ll be pleased to know that Squaw Valley also has a very cool village that’s filled with great restaurants, shops and places to relax your aching muscles.

Sugar Bowl

If groomed trails and state-of-the-art chairlifts are your thing, this place is for you. If you’re close to Sacramento and don’t feel like driving forever, this place is for you. If you only ski and board at places that get at least 40 feet of snow per year, this place is definitely for you. Sugar Bowl is the perfect name for this skier’s paradise. All that snow makes it look like it is a cup filled with sweet temptations and you get to experience it all. Ironically it’s still one of California’s best kept skiing secrets. Go explore it for yourself.
