Of course BC has skiing. How could it not with all those majestic peaks getting topped with all that white powder? Although the mountains get a workout anytime of the year, they become a Mecca for those that know what a gaper, milk run and schussing mean. These mountains are well known for being groomed and having a few major snow dumpings throughout the season. The scenery here is quite amazing so take the time to be a gaper and enjoy the view. After a hard day of working out those muscles you forgot about during the summer, BC’s resorts provide nice ways to relax and recuperate, all to ensure you can go out again the next day. Go for the big names like Whistler-Blackcomb or find the ski hills that are aching to get discovered. Whichever one you choose, BC’s mountain ranges will give you plenty of reasons to enjoy your ski trip.
What should you expect in Whistler-Blackcomb? Two phenomenal mountains that have been joined together not by Mother Nature, but by one owner and that means you save even more since you can buy one pass for both. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to explore all the runs. You should also expect a thriving nightlife. Although that may not be the reason you come here, it’s definitely an added bonus since the village life includes great hotels, restaurants and bars. Exploring what these two mountain ranges have to offer you as a skier and boarder is only half of the fun… telling everyone about your adventures when you get back home is the other part.
This is an ideal place to learn how to ski or improve on what you thought you knew. Although the pros can definitely enjoy their time here as well, more than 60% of the runs are classified as green (beginner) and blue (moderate). There are over 1,800 acres for you to explore and if you want to learn even more, there are 26 miles of cross-country trails.
Panorama is well known for its trails allowing you to ski from your door and ski all day long. Choose to stay on the marked paths and enjoy some of the best groomed trails BC has to offer or make your own after you get to your destination via helicopter. Yup, that’s right… helicopter. This experience is reserved only for those skiers and snowboarders that know what they are doing… and don’t shrug in fear when they see a run that’s been marked as a double-black diamond. But don’t fret if you are nowhere near starring in a Warren Miller movie. There are close to 3,000 acres of terrain for you to perfect your skills. This mountain getaway really is a snow lovers dream come true.
High mountain peaks, lots of perfect snow and great accommodations makes Kicking Horse a fantastic choice. The northeast Purcell Mountains claim to have some of the best snow in all of BC considering what Mother Nature dumps down, she also protects. Kicking Horse was also one of the very first locations to provide Heli-skiing and thus its pretty safe to assume that it has a great selection of unique trails. If you happen to be traveling with someone that doesn’t like to ski, the base to peak Gondola lift provides a fantastic view of the mountain ranges.
