Lanai is affectionately known as the Pineapple Island and rightly so, considering it’s home to one of the world’s largest pineapple plantations after James Dole bought the island in 1922. Although you can still enjoy the fresh fruit, Lanai is also one of the very best places to go diving and snorkeling.
What makes Lanai stand out from the other Hawaiian Islands is that it has stayed as is for many, many years. The benefit of that to you is being able to enjoy a holiday that isn’t packed with shopping centers and traffic lights. You’ll pretty much get an unobstructed view of the island anywhere you go.
Manele Bay and Hulope’e Beach are ideal for water activities, whether it’s swimming or fishing, diving or snorkeling. Make your way to Shipwreck Beach and see the Liberty ship resting on a choral reef, a great place to do a little exploring. Munro Trail will take you to Lanaihale, the island’s highest peak. Along the way you’ll go through beautiful scenery, and once you arrive you’ll be able to get a great view not only of Lanai but of the surrounding Hawaiian Islands as well. Lanai’s strong winds have carved out great images that can be found at the Garden of the Gods. It’s a great site to see.
There aren’t too many hotels located on Lanai, in fact there are only two in, but you could stay at Maui or Molokai and make the trek over for the day and see it in spurts. Whatever you decide, search with HotelsbyCity and get the hotel that best suits your needs.
