Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming, is different from most other major cities in the USA. Although it’s as up to date as the next big city, this town has held onto its western roots. The Cheyenne Frontier Days is a massive rodeo party that celebrates the life and times of the Wild Wild West. This ten-day festival, also known as the Daddy of ‘em all, comes complete with parades, concerts, pancake breakfasts and of course, the rodeos.
Cheyenne is filled with great buildings but a few worth mentioning include the stunning Governor’s Mansion, the Train Depot, the Cheyenne First Church and the Warren-Nagle Mansion.
Strolling through the Botanic Gardens, which is located in Lions Park, is a very neat place to explore. Spanning across nine acres, it uses the sun to provide its energy and heat. The gardens themselves are unbelievable – roses, cacti, tropical plants and local flora are all handled with the utmost care. Your cost for enjoying it? Free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
Snow bunnies will love the fact that Cheyenne is so close to the Colorado Rockies. A bit nearer though is the Medicine Bow Mountains, which offer fantastic skiing and boarding.
Perhaps it comes as no surprise that Cheyenne has a wealth of festivals, concerts and art shows held throughout the year. It is the home of one of the largest rodeos across the nation. So whatever time of year you visit, Cheyenne is ready to celebrate.
