Charleston, the capital of West Virginia, is a picturesque city located along the Appalachian Mountains. There are many wonderful outdoor activities for you to enjoy whatever time of year you stop by. The Kanawha River meanders through the city giving you plenty of chances to enjoy a leisurely stroll beside it. It serves a greater purpose though to the locals. It’s the location for the annual Sternwheel Regatta, which is a fantastic event that shouldn’t be missed if you’re in the area. There are other great events such as the Vandalia Festival and various art displays held throughout the year, some of which are held at the Haddad Park.
Charleston’s long history means you’ll be treated to fantastic architecture. Take a tour through the Governor’s Mansion or the State Capitol Building. The later was built in 1932 and is a stunning example of creativity and determination.
Charleston has also had time to perfect its cooking. Deciding which restaurant you want to dine in is the hard part but once you decide you’ll love the creations put in front of you. Shopping in Charleston is quite the experience as well. The Town Center is a huge mall that has fantastic stores for you to browse through. There are also many antique stores and boutiques in the Renaissance Village. History, great scenery, fun events and shopping – Charleston seems to have it all.
