Good hotel, horrible restaurant - posted on 11/10/2006
While the the location and the "theme" of the hotel are nice, the staff are in need of a refresher course in hospitality. The front desk was fine and knowledgeable enough. However, dealing with the service staff in the hotel restaurant/lounge was terrible. Not sure if it's under different management than the hotel, but its restaurant portion is certainly not up to the hotel's service level.

Had typically been a fan of Topaz. However, after they overcharged my credit card I contacted the manager who indicated he would correct the problem. After several weeks of waiting, no credit appeared on my account. Called the manager again -- still no response. Contacted Kimpton headquarters -- no response. What a horrible way to deal with customers - if this is the Kimpton standard I will never stay at a Kimpton hotel again.

Very relaxing hotel. Wonderful staff. Excellent location. I had lived in DC years ago and wish I knew about the offerings on this street...a great restaurant right across the street (the Gates). Also the bar was fun. Starbucks just down the street. Loved the free New York Times on Sunday.

This is a fun hotel! Break away from the ordinary. Funky, colorful, large, & super comfortable rooms with a bed so comfy you won't want to leave it. The staff was charming, friendly and very accomodating. The food area they lack a bit, but not in quality. The restaurant really offers oversized appetizers and a light breakfast in the morning. However loads of restaurants in the area make up for this and The Topaz bar is great groovy fun. Creative drinks-good music, great rooms with a new age feel. I would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from DC and Topaz. Small hotel, which suits me, great rooms, very large with nice amenities, very friendly staff and attention. Great area to stay.

The location was great...easy walk to the Dupont Circle Metro (right next to Krispy Kreme), lots of neat restaurants and stores nearby. Starbucks on the corner. The water pressure was not great on the 9th floor but other than that, we had no issues with the room. The room was large enough for 3 adult females to share. The lounge was on the small side but the food was great and it was always filled with people. I will definitely stay at the Topaz again.
