You know right away that The Topaz Hotel is a cure for the common hotel. Think exotic and energetic, relaxation and rejuvenation and a bit mystical. Tucked into a side street off busy Dupont Circle, it’s hard to believe you are in the heart of Washington DC and only a mile away from the nation’s Capital. An attendant clad in a colorful tunic welcomes you into a lobby reminiscent of a sheik’s oasis. Guestrooms are havens of intimate tranquility and well-equipped for both leisure and business travelers. The Topaz Bar doubles as the restaurant and is a popular after-hours gathering place. It’s easy to make new acquaintances at Happy Hour over a signature Blue Nirvana cocktail and an Asian-inspired menu before escaping to the sanctuary of your elegant room.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the Washington DC area. Other travelers enjoy it as well. It is convenient to everything but away from the city chaos. It may take a bit of adjustment from the staid atmosphere of traditional hotels to the Zen ambiance of The Topaz, but after one stay ordinary hotels will never be the same. Topaz Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel Accommodations

The Topaz is a small boutique hotel with 99 spacious, non-smoking rooms. Although the world seems far away, stay in touch with high-speed Internet access, dual-line cordless telephones and private voice mail. Enjoy a cup of herbal tea or a nightcap from the well-stocked honor bar before tucking yourself in for a tranquil night under a sumptuous down comfort amidst European linens and fluffy pillows. By the way, you won't find any ordinary mints on the pillow. Here, you’ll find small bag of mediation stones to help you leave the daily stress far behind.

Amenities offered

The Topaz is all about amenities and attentive service. Start the day with a complimentary Power Hour breakfast of fresh fruit, granola bars, an energy shake and the morning newspaper. Later browse the motivational library and request the complimentary Yoga basket. Snuggle up in a plush terry robe in the privacy of your room and learn Yoga relaxation techniques via an in-room Yoga program. Warning: you may not want to leave the peaceful haven of The Topaz and return to the real world.

FROM THE NORTH:
Take I-95 South to the Capital Beltway (I-95/ I-495 South) towards Annapolis/Richmond. Take 95 South to Route 50 West (Washington). Follow Route 50 West and it will become New York Avenue. Stay on New York Avenue until you join Massachusetts Avenue. This will happen near 7th Street. Continue on Massachusetts Avenue. Follow Massachusetts through the tunnel (this is under Thomas Circle), you will then go through the next circle (Scott Circle) continuing on Massachusetts Avenue. Two blocks after Scott Circle you will make a left onto 18th Street. Go one block and turn left onto N Street. The Topaz Hotel will be halfway down the block on the left hand side of the street.

FROM THE SOUTH:
Take I-95 North to I-395 North to the 14th Street Bridge. As the lanes split, follow signs to Route 1 North/ 14th Street as you are crossing the bridge. Route 1 becomes 14th Street. Continue on 14th Street until you get to I Street. Turn left onto I Street. Turn right onto 18th Street. After you cross M Street stay to your right. You will cross straight over a very large intersection (Connecticut Avenue). Stay to the right and you will come to a small intersection (N Street). Turn right onto N Street. The Topaz Hotel will be halfway down the block on the left side of the street.
