Very misleading hotel - posted on 04/12/2007
Touting themselves as a luxury hotel on their website, this place is better suited for students and is more on a hostel level than a hotel. Dirty/old accomodations. Bugs in my bed, window view was of the trash dumpster.

My usual hotel was unavailable so I was placed here. Poor servce....1 person working front desk while 5 people waited to check in, restaurant prices were unrealistic to food quality, "fitness center" was 1/4 size of my room and THE treadmill did not work, room was VERY outdated and in poor condition for the price.

The room was very nice. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was nice and clean. The desk was very useful and the room itself was very big. However, there was no fridge or microwave and the television did not have alot of channels

The food was expensive and terrible. Choices were limited and poorly prepared. During a three-day conference, much of the food was returned untouched. The mattresses were old and sagging. You had to sleep in the middle so you wouldn't roll out of bed. My window looked into a brick wall over the trash bin. 30 minutes to retrieve my car.
Can anyone hear me? - posted on 11/12/2006
Stayed in this hotel...usually stay in the Ritz, a block away, with the World Bank, and this was a rude wake up call. Waited at the front desk for 10 minutes to check in. Room smelled funny. Room service took 30 minutes to bring eggs and toast? Staffing levels need to be reviewed here.
great location and roomy suite - posted on 10/29/2006
the suite was very spacious and comfortable. We love the location of the Melrose.
Many issues....... - posted on 10/29/2006
My visit to the hotel started with a 20 minute wait at the front desk, while the ONE PERSON working checked in the entire line of people in front of me. Hotel is extremely understaffed.....it took my room service 45 minutes to arrive(cereal isn't that complicated) and the restaurant was just as bad and overpriced. I was in a meeting in the basement and had to go into the 'back of the house' to find someone and was disgusted by the conditions.
In need of a makeover! - posted on 10/27/2006
I was raised 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all,' which is why this review will be very short. Stayed here several years ago and the service and accomodations have drastically changed for the worse. Put up here by my law firm and advised them NOT to do that again.
location is the only thing this hotel has..... - posted on 09/28/2006
I stayed here because my law firm put me up here and I've asked them not to put me there again. Things just seemed dirty, like there was a layer of grease and dust on everything. I was in the basement at a meeting, had to go find an employee to help us and was appalled at the conditions of the back of the house....didn't eat anything there after that! A health code violation waiting to happen.
Location is key - posted on 07/24/2006
Location of hotel is great, but the room was not worth the price I paid for it. We had a suite, overlooking a brick wall. That was very disappointing. Were not allowed to park our car ourselves. The location is the only reason I'd stay there again.
Really gone downhill since my last stay - posted on 07/13/2006
things have just been steadily declining over recent months. Speaking with the staff there, apparently the hotel has recently been taken over by a new "management company" which could explain my recent findings. My room had a musty/damp smell to it, the fabrics in the room were faded and worn and in desperate need of replacement( as is most the hotel), Apparently this new mngmt co is mostly affiliated with 'lower end' properties, and it's already showing. GM never returned my phone calls.
July 4th success - posted on 07/12/2006

Nice, but watch those incidentals! - posted on 11/12/2005
The room was large and very comfortable. The service was very good. There was a ($10/day!) charge for wireless internet access, but I could not gain access, so the clerk invited me to use the business center ($10/30 mins) free of charge. The range of cable channels, even news channels, is very limited. With tip, the buffet breakfast was $20.
Perfect Stay - posted on 08/15/2005
This hotel is a gem, we enjoyed our stay. Room was large and quiet. Very pleasant to come home to after a day of touring. Metro right down street and great Georgtown restaurants a short walk away.Parking is expensive, no alternative.
Would stay again - posted on 08/12/2005
The hotel was very pretty. The renovations were nice and service was good. A few of the renovations in the bathroom were a good idea, but overall the beds were comfortable, the room was large and not cramped at all. It is 2.5 blocks from the Metro and 5 blocks from Georgetown shopping. It felt like we were the only ones staying the only time we heard noise was when people were in the hallway talking other than that nothing. I would definitely stay again.
Disappointed - posted on 07/31/2005
This hotel is under staffed. The staff tries their best but management and staffing leave everything to be desired. Carpets in rooms need steam cleaning. Must use valet pariking and at $28 per day we should not have had to track down a valet tonight.
The Melrose - posted on 07/19/2005
We enjoyed the large room, the friendly staff, and the convenient location. The maid forgot to leave coffee and a bath mat one day. There is a great convenience store next door with a wonderful wine/liquor selection.

Perfect location. Valet parking convenient, but expensive. Room was clean, old spots in the carpeting. Too much caulking around the tub, soap dishes in the tub fell off the wall, and the sink backed up. Kitchen area nice. Attractive room overall. Internet access should have been free since I was using a toll free number, but was instead we were charged a $1.00 for each 30 minutes. Cell phone charger was left in the room and hotel staff agreed to mail it too us, at a charge.
