Memorial Day DC Experience - posted on 06/02/2007

Hyatt Regency was well located, close to Metro, Capital and Smithsonian Museums.

Great Stay - posted on 05/29/2007

I just came back from a Memorial Day weekend stay. I stayed at this wonderful hotel for 5 nights. It was wonderful. Everyone was friendly. The location was perfect for walking everywhere (be prepared for a good workout especially to Capitol Hill). The food at the restaurant was excellent, but the servers needs to work on their customer service. I recommend the Hyatt to everyone.

Easter Stayover - posted on 04/14/2007

Went down to DC to see our daughter over Easter. Our stay at the Hyatt was excellent. Rooms were spacious and clean, coffeemaker in the room. Low rate. Location is ideal for sightseeing. Short walk from Union Station, so you can fly in and hop on the metro, and get off with a 2-5 minute walk to the hotel. In addition when we were there they had an alternative lifestyle conference, which made the people watching especially interesting!

Not so sure... - posted on 04/13/2007

I have stayed at hotel in the past and was impressed enough to want to stay there again. The location is ideal and the temerpedic matresses are divine! I did have to ask three times for a roll-away bed and finally recieved it well after 10pm. There was also some convention happening at the time that we were there, the risque attire of the participants exposed my child to things that I did not appreciate.

2 blocks to Union Station (metro). Clean room, great beds, tub, great service and pool is free if you fill out a form (ask at main desk). Free full breakfast buffet included I didn't know about when booking. I will definitely return. Yes, a bit of construction, but where doesn't that occur. Homeless shelter in back, so we used front entrance! I travelled w/my 9 year old daughter and we had a wonderful time.

Not good for families - posted on 04/10/2007

Overbooked, sent us across the street for first night! Long walk to metro, homeless people hanging about. No tub in room, not good for families, more suited to business. Had to repeatedly ask for enough towels. Remote control in room didn't work.

A la carte Hyatt - posted on 08/28/2006

The hotel was clean, and 99.9 % of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the concirege was the only exception There is a homeless shelter around the back which you need to be aware of if you stay out late. A bldg is being demolished around the back, so forget sleeping in. Although the price was excellent by the time we finished paying the bill with the daily parking fee/tax (36.96/day) It was no longer such a great deal. In addition there was a fee to use the pool/gym. That was unexpected, unwelcomed and excessive cost.

Nice hotel, but ... - posted on 08/23/2006

Overall, the hotel was clean and affordable. Location near Capitol and Union Station definitely a plus. Unfortunately, major construction of new building on empty lot next door created excessive noise already at 7 AM. If you intend to sleep in, this hotel is not for you. Without construction noise, hallway noise can also be quite disturbing.

Cleaners needed - posted on 08/14/2006

The bathrooms are not clean to the standard you would expect in this kind of hotel. We were 10 nights in this hotel; one of them our room was not tended; it took us four hours to receive the due service.

What a pleasant surprise!! Based on reviews that I read I chose this hotel...and I'm glad I did. The staff was fantastic...in particular the Consierge, and wait staff, who were friendly, very accomodating and seemed to enjoy their jobs. These traits are very rare today when you are dealing with such an eclectic society . The rooms were great especially the beds and linens...important when you're walking the city all day and want comfort Dinner was pricey, but delicious and plentiful. Great and very inexpensive Pizza in the lounge. Loved the city and this hotel....you will too!

great room - posted on 07/23/2006

The room we had was fantastic-2 adults, 1 12 year old in one room and very comfortable! Bed was superb-and we had a rollaway provided at no cost. Location is near Union Station & Metro-we came by train-it was an easy walk to the hotel even with luggage. One tip-eat breakfast at Union Station-skip the expesive hotel food & the disgusting diner across the street. Also-you can aviod the pool charges by aplying for a Hyatt gold card.

dc weekend - posted on 07/21/2006

we found the staff very accomodating, friendly and helpful. the only time i found the staff unpleasant was on the phone when making reservation. the room was beautiful with soothing colors. the showerhead was one of the best we have ever experienced. the car was ready when we called 15 minutes prior to needing the car. our rate was a very good deal. our son is in college in dc so we visit often and would definitely stay again-as long as the price was right.

Nice hotel - posted on 07/16/2006

Hotel was clean and classy. Rooms were very nice, staff was friendly and helpful. Food was not up to par with the price ($18 for breakfast buffet) but was alright. Pool use was $14 a day, and not advertised, parking was $33 a night. Ended up parking one block away for half that price. Overall, happy with hotel and would stay there again, but play to eat elsewhere.

I agree with some of the previous ratings: the resturant was over priced, we had the breakfast buffet included in room rate but were tired of eating there after 2 days it was okay but not great. Pool has a $14.00 fee to use per day, we complained and weren't charged but did not enjoy the pool/spa area, not comfortable with kids. The pool/health club is set up for adults. Pool is a sport/lap pool and we found globs of hair floating while swimming. Other than that the hotel lobby and rooms were very nice, service was good no other complaints.

bad parking - posted on 06/29/2006

the hotel was nice, decent room. the breakfest buffet was 1 hour wait if you were not there by 9am and the valet parking to get your car was a joke on sunday am- there was over an hour wait to get your car and they were not answering the phone- we ended up getting an escort with a crowd of others and getting the car ourselves- not a pretty site.

DC Trip - posted on 06/28/2006

The Hyatt Recency is an excellent hotel and the rates are fantastic. The hotel staff was helpfull and friendly and the room and beds excellent. It is walking distance from Union Station and the Metro, and is located close to most of the monuments and the Smithsonian. The only problem I had is that the restaruant is insanely expensive - $14.00 for French Toast! - so we didn't eat there. You could very easily spend more on dinner than what you spent on the room!

Awful Experience - posted on 06/03/2006

Called hotel morning of visit to confirm a double only to be told upon arrival "We don't do that, so I don't know who would have said that" This in spite of the fact that the two other guests checking in on either side of me were having same experience. No apologies to any of us and no alternatives offered. Tried to charge me for cot my son had to sleep on. Took two hours to get corkscrew delivered to room. Location does not make up for worst staff bar none.

Memeorial Day Weekend - posted on 06/01/2006

The hotel's location was excellent, just two blocks from Union Station and about three blocks from the Capitol. The rooms was neatly appointed. The Health Club could use some updating. All in all it turned out to be a great weekend especially since it was Memorial Day Weekend.

Took my 13 yr old history buff son to see the sights. Hotel was conveniently located to Tourmobile and Union Station stops. Concierge was fantastic! $20 upgrade for breakfast buffet was well worth it. We'll definitely be going back.

Priceless weekend with my Sisters - posted on 10/12/2005

If it hadn't poured al weekend, we would have walked every where. The metro is close by and we never hade aporblem getting a cab. When we checked in the room smelled musty so we opened the window. Later that night we realized that the carpet was damp. Maybe had recently been cleaned and not quite dry. we turned up the heat and it ws fine later in the day. The staff was very friendly and helpful. going down 1 flight from the front doors for the lobby is very bizzare.

Great Experience - posted on 09/13/2005

My husband and I took grandaughter to Washington during her spring break...The hotel was great, the staff friendly, rooms were immaculate. Food at the resturant was very good. Location was great, only 3 short blocks to Union Station, for food, shopping & Metro...

My stay was very enjoyable. The parking was a little overpriced and so was the breakfast buffet. Overall a perfect spot for sightseeing. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated.

Good stay with my kids - posted on 05/22/2005

Stayed with my two young daughters, and we loved the breakfast buffet in the open area near the lobby --- worth the $22 a person. Location is very good, can walk to Union Station for Metro. Longer but doable walk to Smithsonian museums (we then returned by taxi). Valet parking is only real option and is pricey.

Nice place for location - posted on 04/02/2005

The location of the front desk is the worst I have seen. It?s on a floor lower than the door where you first walk in off the street. You walk in the door and you just don?t say 'Wow' like you would from other hotels with a three diamond rating. You walk threw the front door and have to step immediately on an escalator and go down the middle of the lobby and open restaurant. It feels like you are in line to the Space Mountain ride at Disney. The hotel is very dated. Built in 1980 or later I would guess. The location is great if you want to be close to the Capital building.

A wonderful experience! - posted on 03/16/2005

This was my first time at this hotel and I found it to be wonderful. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the new renovations to the rooms are gorgeous. The food was of good quality but overpriced, but given the hotel's proximity to the center of town, there are plenty of places to eat nearby. Honestly one of the nicest hotels overall that I've stayed at in DC.
