Austin Powers decor - posted on 07/12/2005

Cool decor up & coming neighborhood -- nearbygreat food (Logan Tavern) & giant Whole Foods. live theater (The Studio) just around courner! We also found a couple of great furniture stores with same funky style within blocks & a nice bookstore that features travel *** Bit of a hike to the subway**** Free 5PM champaine in lobby was a nice welcome, but we could have used some help with bags -- there are a couple of steps mid lobby pre elavator. Room was well stocked (fake fur robes, powerful hairdryer, safe, DVD player, big desk, mini frig). We will send friends there!

Hotel for Grown Folks - posted on 06/28/2005

This is a chic boutique hotel and the staff is helpful, but are not babysitters. Rooms are very clean. The layout and design of the rooms are notable. My only complaint is the inavailability of food past 10PM. However, there are a few good restaurants in the vicinity that easily remedy that.

Hip in DC - posted on 04/16/2007

From the Austin Powers phone messaging service to the groovy front desk to the hot room decor, The Helix is the ulitmate hot spot hotel. Rooms were mood enhanced with wall mirrors, dimmer switches on every light, curtianed off sleeping area with shaggy bedspread. They paid attention to every detail from th orange H on the towels to the Pop Rocks and Pezz in the room honor bar. The staff was great and knew exactly where to send me for the best pizza delivery. I will defiantly recommend this place to all my out of town friends.

When I arrived at the Helix, they didn't have the room type I reserved. Worse than this is that they had a "don't care" attitude about it. When I asked to speak to the manager about the attitude of the clerk, she said, "I am the manager." Whoa! I would not recommend this hotel due to their poor customer relations.

Great locale, Subpar service - posted on 09/06/2006

Big room, great rates, excellent location with nice views and plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Service was lacking. Valet-only lot didn't have a valet, so cars were backed-up. Took unreasonable amount of time to check-in. Front desk staff didn't know how to deal with pre-paid reservations, and tried to charge me again for the room. I later checked-out with a different credit card (which took a long time), then they charged my ORIGINAL card for the full price of the hotel.

I too arrived to no help with luggage; but had little and could manage. I was put in a smoking room despite asking for the opposite. they were able to change me , but to a room without a desk.. fine room, but odd without a desk. and every time I asked for information about getting around the person I asked didn't know and had to ask someone else!

Thought that the room was fun and the neighborhood was great - Logan Tavern is definitely recommended. The staff is helpful and the free champagne is a nice touch. Caribou coffee on the corner was nice. I would stay here again. Only problem: LONG WALK TO METRO!

Harrowing experience - posted on 08/19/2005

I would never stay here again. We arrived to a loud party, no help with our bags and no parking. We were awoken the following night by a woman screaming in the elevator - the staff knew nothing about it. Couldn't wait to get out of there!
