Twinkle, twinkle mega star is probably the version the youth of Roanoke heard when they were young. Sitting high atop Mill Mountains is a huge neon star. Weighing at over 10,000 pounds and standing at close to 90 feet tall, it’s one of the largest stars in the nation.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the abundance of outdoor activities found in Roanoke. Hiking and bike paths, kayaking and canoeing are only a few of the activities you can enjoy here. The Virginia’s Explore Park is another great way to enjoy the outdoors but you can also see what life was like for the early Americans.

Roanoke has many wonderful museums. Some of the best can be found in one place. The Art Museum of Western Virginia, the Science Museum of Western Virginia, the Roanoke Valley History Museum, the Mill Mountain Theatre and the Hopkins Planetarium can all be found in a huge warehouse that was built in 1914.

Shopping in Roanoke is a unique experience. Keep your eyes open for great antiques and the latest trends, as well as the many galleries that can be found throughout the city. However, if you can only visit one place you’ll need to head over to the Market Square. It’s here that you’ll find the famous farmer’s market. It started back in the early 1880s and has grown into an amazing place where you’ll enjoy wandering around and seeing the local wares. Market Square is also a great place to enjoy an evening out.
