The pet-friendly 80 all-suites Residence Inn by Marriott Richmond West End provides extended stay, or short stay accommodation equally suited to the business or leisure traveler. The two-story non-smoking property is within walking distance of several business offices and attractions including Genworth Financial, Philip Morris, Suntrust and Alcoa; the Science Museum of Virginia and the Shops at Willow Lawn. Items included in the room rate are a hot breakfast buffet, a manager’s reception on midweek evenings, high-speed Internet access, local telephone calls, parking and coffee available in the lobby 24/7. One meeting room for business or social events can accommodate 20 guests. Other attractions close to the hotel include the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Valentine History Center, Hollywood Cemetery, Kings Dominion and Colonial Downs Racetrack.

This Residence Inn gets numerous repeat customers; many of them have been coming here for years. Some say the older property is now in need of some updating but they say the service remains good and so they continue to visit. Other are not so tolerant and think the property has passed its sell-by date and needs some work done now. The rates are reasonable and hopefully the improvements will be made shortly. All of the suites have a kitchen with conventional oven and microwave oven, stovetop, refrigerator with icemaker, dishwasher, coffeemaker, toaster and a full set of cutlery and crockery. There is a work desk with high-speed Internet access, telephone with voicemail, pullout sofa bed, cable television with movie and news channels, pay-per-view movies, hairdryer and an iron and ironing board. Some of the suites have a fireplace, patio and ceiling fans.

This inn has an outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool. Hotel guests get free membership to the nearby Richmond Athletic Club, with its fitness center and fitness classes. The only meals served here are breakfast and the mid week light dinners at the manager’s reception. The inn offers a grocery shopping service and can arrange for area restaurants to deliver to the inn. There are several places to eat nearby including Awful Arthur’s Seafood, the Crazy Greek, Buffalo Wild Wings and a Lonestar Steakhouse. The 24-hour front desk has safe deposit boxes and information on area events and attractions.
