Irving

The amazing city of Irving is located between Arlington and Dallas. It has fantastic art galleries, a world-class golf school, shops and of course fantastic Texas style meals. Although it has more than 40 Fortune 500 companies that call it home, it still boasts a hometown feel where you can relax and enjoy the sites.

One of the pride and joys in Irving is Las Colinas, an amazing neighborhood filled with companies, restaurants, and amazing sites. Make your way along the Mandalay Canal Walk, a tree-lined cobblestone pathway that follows along the canal. The Mustangs of Las Colinas, located at Williams Square Plaza, are a wonderful creation by African artist Robert Glen. There are nine mustangs in total, each created out of bronze that gallop across a granite stream. There’s a small exhibit nearby that includes a short film describing the work involved in creating these amazing statues. You can enjoy these fantastic creatures day or night, just make sure you see the details up close. Another interesting sculpture, also in the animal genre, are the Marble Cows that sit on top of Bluebonnet Hill, which were created as a tribute to the rolling ranchlands. If you prefer to see real horses, make your way to the beautiful Las Colinas Equestrian Center. This is a fantastic place to watch Breed Shows, Jumper Horse Shows and Horse Trials. See if you can catch a show. Don’t be surprised to find that Irving has a bit of Hollywood’s charm. Located in the Dallas Communications Complex, the Studios at Las Colinas is an absolute must for anyone who loves the movies. See where JKF and Robocop were filmed or get the inside scoop on how they made superman fly or be part of your own special effects show. They have a fantastic collection of famous movie props like the model submarine from the Hunt For Red October and the bench from Forest Gump. See the costumes of Batman and Superman up close. They even have Dorothy’s blue dress from the Wizard of Oz and the Von Trapp family costumes from the Sound of Music. Ever wonder what camp would be like for an adult? Wonder no more and visit the Byron Nelson Golf School. These three-day clinics come complete with golf coaches, who can teach you how to stop slicing the ball, and a closing ceremony, which includes an awards presentation. The only thing missing is the bread pudding made out of that morning’s left over toast. And for those not familiar with Byron Nelson, he was inducted into the PGA Hall of Fame back in 1953 and is known for having developed the perfect swing. Now what better coach could you ask for? If you’re loosing track of time, visit Las Colinas Flower, a huge clock made with fresh flowers that are in constant bloom. It’s one of the most beautiful landmarks in Irving and stretches over 37 feet. Really wouldn’t want the job of weeding it.
