Fort Worth is filled with the Wild West and is about as charming and hospitable as a town can get. And although its held on tightly to its southern roots, its also embraced the luxuries of today. Known as the city 'Where the West Begins,' Fort Worth is a perfect place to get away from a hectic pace and enjoy a break, southern style.
Make your way to the Stockyards where its filled with storefronts dating back to the late 1800s. There are hitching posts still in use, saloons, and a daily longhorn cattle drive. And although the area feels like an old western movie youll be pleasantly surprised with the modern galleries and restaurants that line the streets. Your Stockyard experience wont be complete though until you swagger down to the Cowtown Coliseum. This historic place was the location for the first indoor rodeo held in 1918 and still stages Wild West performances.
Grab a ride on the Tarantula Train. This restored steam train uses an 1896 locomotive, which pulls four-day coaches built in 1925 and traces 21 miles of trails along the Cotton Belt Route once used by cowboys and ranch hands. Passengers will enjoy a fantastic ride as they experience a bit the Wild West. Or make your way to the Log Cabin Village. Its grouping of seven fully restored cabins were built in the 1850s. Volunteers can show you how things got done back in day ranging from corn grinding, weaving and candle dipping. Itll make you appreciate the wonders of the modern world.
For those that need a bit of adventure, you can drive about 15 miles from Fort Worth where youll find the very first Six Flags theme park. Youll absolutely love the rides and thrills it has to offer. On a hot and sunny day, or if youre just a water-lover, head over to Hurricane Harbor for the best water rides around.
Fort Worths downtown is the Sundance Square. Named after the infamous Sundance Kid who used it as a hideout, this 20-block district is packed full of nightclubs, restaurants, shops and boutiques. Its been recognized for its tremendous efforts and success in urban redevelopment and is definitely the place to be when the sun goes down. Another place for a great nightspot is Billy Bobs Texas. For over 20 years, its been a Fort Worth landmark. And because its in Texas, you know its huge, its seven acres huge. There are two big dance floors, 25 bars, a celebrity wall of fame, live entertainment and restaurants. Should we continue? Its been voted Country Music Club of the Year seven times. Yee haw!
