The 405-room Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort at Grande Dunes is part of the expensive Grande Dunes community, a 2,200-acre, plantation-style residential and leisure development. Activities available here include championship golf, tennis a large tropical beachfront pool with waterslide and a European spa. The 15-story, non-smoking resort has 14 meeting rooms for social or business functions. The largest can accommodate 1,665 guests. Area landmarks and attractions include deep sea fishing, Brookgreen Gardens, Carolina Opry, Ripley’s Aquarium, the Dixie Stampede and the Myrtle Waves Water Park. Items included in the room rate are in-room coffee and tea, local telephone calls, a morning newspaper and a shoeshine.

Most families thought this resort was a great place for a vacation. Plus points were the location right on the beach, the large swimming beachfront pool with slides for the youngsters to enjoy and helpful and attentive employees. Several thought the resort was expensive, particularly dining here. There are other places in the area to eat but you will need a car, or a taxi to reach them. Words of warning from precious clients: Not all the rooms have ocean views. To enjoy this property at its best an ocean view is a must. Many clients said they would be back for future vacations. All the guestrooms, and eight suites, have a work desk with high-speed Internet access, two-line telephone with voicemail and speakerphone, coffee and tea making facilities, cable television with news and movie channels, pay-per-view movies, pullout sofa bed, iron and ironing board, alarm clock, bathrobes and a hairdryer.

Dining options include the poolside Ocean Blu, open for lunch and dinner, Ocean’s on 82nd open for breakfast lunch and dinner, and The Bar which offers appetizers along with a full range of beverages. Room service is available from 6am and until 11pm. The hotel has an outdoor pool, indoor pool, whirlpool, health club and a full service spa. The 24-hour front desk has safe deposit boxes. Other amenities include a concierge desk, coin-operated laundry, valet dry-cleaning, a business center, an ATM, bookstore and a gift shop and newsstand.

From Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) 12 miles: Follow airport exit signs to Highway 17 Bypass. Go north on Highway 17 Bypass to 82nd Parkway and make a right. Turn left at Business 17 (King's Highway). Turn at first right onto Grande Dunes Boulevard. Continue straight and turn right onto Costa Verde Drive and into hotel entrance.
