The 300-room Marriott Columbia provides luxury accommodation at an affordable price for both the business and leisure traveler. The 14-story, non-smoking hotel is located among the historic streets of downtown Columbia and has 15 meeting rooms available for social or business functions. The largest, the Capital Ballroom, can accommodate 700 guests. Area landmarks and attractions close to this full service hotel include three golf courses, Riverbanks Zoo, the State Capital building, the Department of Archives and History, Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home, Fort Jackson, the William Brice Stadium, the University of South Carolina and the Columbia Museum of Art.

Many visitors to Columbia rate this as a wonderful hotel. The location is great, close to everything, and the employees get good reviews for being attentive and solving problems quickly. Several couples enjoyed weekend getaways here when the rates were lower and breakfast was included in the price. Many were impressed with the lobby but there were gripes about maintenance problems, which no doubt Marriott will have fixed by the time you read this. Marriott Columbia Accommodations

All the guestrooms, and 15 suites, have a work desk with high-speed Internet access, Internet browser television with movie and news channels, pay-per-view movies, alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, pullout sofa bed, hairdryer and two-line telephone with voicemail and speakerphone. The bathtubs have spray jets. Video games and players are available for rent.

Dining options include the City Center Grille, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; Garnet’s Sports Bar, open for lunch and dinner; the City Center Lounge open throughout the day with lighter fare, and a Starbucks Coffee. Room service is available from 6.30am until midnight. Restaurants nearby include the Hampton Street Vineyard and Hennessey’s Restaurant. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool and fitness center. The 24-hour front desk has safe deposit boxes and information on area events and attractions. There is a full service business center on-site, coin-operated laundry, vending machines and valet dry-cleaning.

From Columbia Airport (CAE) 9 miles: Leaving the airport, make a left on Highway 302/Airport Boulevard. Continue on I-26 (toward Greenville/Spartanburg). Follow I-26 W and exit 111B (Highway 1 Augusta Road-West Columbia). Bear to the left at the third light and follow the signs to Jarvis Klapman Boulevard which is Highway 12. After crossing the bridge in the city, Jarvis Klapman becomes Hampton Street. Go through five traffic lights. The Marriott is on the right at the corner of Hampton and Main Street.
