Customer Reviews for Charleston Riverview Hotel

Although this hotel is still undergoing renovations, it is a clean hotel with responsive staff. We didn't have the pleasure of using the restaurant which was still undergoing renovations but you could see that it is going to be a fantastic hotel.

Just what I needed - posted on 01/31/2007

This hotel may be nice once they are finished. The neighborhood is a little sketchy, but once I was familiar with the area I was able to get around well. I didn't need anything fancy, which was good, because they just weren't at the point to offer fancy. I was concerned about the bathroom, which apparently was redone, but was dated and wherein the lights and fan made funny noises.

Great Stay - posted on 10/05/2006

The rooms are beautiful. First class accomodations all the way. The hotel was under construction during our stay so be advised there can be some noise but all in all very pleased with my stay.

Hotel was nice and the staff were friendly. Room was nice. Will be nice after completion. They do need more parking now.

Not worth the money! - posted on 06/26/2006

The appearance of the outside of the hotel is appalling. Just driving into the parking lot--if you can find it--is enough to make you turn around. The front desk staff is curt at best. Workers are constantly in the halls, and even at your windows! Skip the breakfast bar. The food is dreadful and expensive!

Too loud to sleep - posted on 06/12/2006

I drove from Columbia and stayed here to take a test at the College of Charleston at 7:30 in the morning. Even though I went to bed early, I could not sleep for all the noise. The walls and doors must have no insulation. You can hear people talking, walking, closing doors, and the worst was the ice machine. I was at the very end of the hall and could still hear the ice machine. It was very disturbing. I will not stay here again.

Quite Nice Despite Construction - posted on 06/12/2006

The room was quite nice. Even though the bathroom had a wonderful color scheme, it was kind of small with limited counterspace. We had a corner view of the river which was pretty nice. The staff gave wonderful directions downtown to King Street and the Battery. I can't wait to see the hotel again when the renovations are completed.

Worst hotel stay in my life!! - posted on 06/06/2006

I have written a two page letter to the General Manager, Mr. Wong regarding all the problems with this hotel.

Well worth the money - posted on 05/17/2006

We had a king deluxe room on the ninth floor and other than the expansion construction that was going on it was a great hotel. The accents in the room were a nice touch as well

I had a wonderful stay! - posted on 05/03/2006

Everything was wonderful! The bed was super soft w/feather pillows. However, they do need more luggage carts. When I needed to leave in the morning there were NO carts available. The night mgr help me carry my luggage to my car. I thought that was very thoughtful.

Wait for completed renovations - posted on 04/18/2006

This hotel is *isolated* from restaurants, and the renovations make it uncomfortable. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and confused for my entire visit, but the restaurant staff and bellman were on top of things.

Should not be open - posted on 04/01/2006

No hot water, no bedspreads, no housekeeping service. These are the things we'll always remember about this hotel. I emailed them about these things (at their request) and they have not apologized or responded. Our stay was like sleeping in a refurbished bedroom in the center of the reconstruction of a bombed out structure. Wait a year before you book here!!

Romantic Valentine's Visit - posted on 02/23/2006

Once the work on this hotel is complete it will be excellent. We did not notice any noise. The rooms have very comfortable beds, high quality furnishings, bath is luxurious including a large shower with two heads (no tub and granite topped counters. Requires a car to get downtown but it is a 5 min. drive. Excellent qualitity for the money.

New Rooms - posted on 02/17/2006

Very Pleased considering I paid only $x. Rooms are newly updated with nice wood furnishings & rich decor. Bathrrom fixtures were great with Double shower head and tile shower. Hotel's common areas are in total disarray due to ongoing renovations, however, if a great room is all you want, you won't want to pass on this one.

Good & getting better - posted on 10/26/2005

Thanks for a wonderful stay at your hotel. I enjoyed one of your PH suites clean, friendly staff, the view of the city lights, the marina, the peacefulness of the water was AWESOME, the convenience to downtown was great. I understand your renovating so I did not mind the noise when in the room briefly after a wonderful breakfast @ the Ashley cafe & look forward to the upgrades after your renovation process is completed next year. I got to review 2 of your suites on the 3rd floor & its beautiful.

Overpriced - posted on 10/13/2005

The room was shabby and was is need of updating. We would have left if we had not already pre-paid. In fact, they are re-modeling the hotel. You will need a car as little to see and few places to eat near the hotel. We were greatly disappointed with our stay at this overpriced hotel.

Not Good - posted on 09/11/2005

The staff at this hotel does not know how to respond to a guest request for service. The TV did not work and it took 2 days to get it fixed. When a complaint was made concerning noisy guests (running in halls and knocking on doors after 11:00pm) we were told that the staff hoped they were checking out in the morning.

definitely NOT a 3 Star Rating - posted on 09/10/2005

My first room had no A/C and it was in the 90's outside. My second room had only 1 curtain and it faced the minor league ballpark lights. 3rd room carpet pad missing in places. Sliding door howled when wind blew, but had great view of river.

Nice stay - posted on 08/26/2005

We were dropping our son off at the Citadel for summer session and stayed here. The room was nice size and clean but the dresser had a busted drawer front. Things looked a little dated but nice. We were told pool closed at 10:00 even though a family was in there swimming. Staff was friendly and helpful. Very convenient to downtown & the Citadel. Not bad at all for the money.

Good location - posted on 08/18/2005

I went to a convention at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised. Before my trip, I had read the other reviews. Apparently changes have been made as I found the hotel accommodations very pleasant. Also the location was close to many major attractions. I enjoyed my stay!

Rates OK - posted on 08/15/2005

This hotel offers a convenient location and attractive rates. The facility could use some sprucing up, but we found it clean and neat. Don't accept a connecting room; normal conversation can be heard clearly through the connecting doors.

Little to redeem this place.. - posted on 08/02/2005

Got ripped off on their Big Fish package; overpriced acquarium tickets and the worst breakfast I've ever had at a hotel. Could hear the people in the next room each night (but the front desk did call them to ask them to be quiet). The bathroom towel bar came off in my hand as I hung a washcloth and the lights stopped working after that. The only good thing is how close it is to downtown and the 30 Connector to Folly Beach. You can see baseball from your room if you're lucky, but otherwise, this place is a dive.

Very Good Deal - posted on 08/01/2005

Booked this hotel for an overnite trip for a college tour--was looking for safe & reasonable accomodations for a relatively low cost (as opposed to a romantic weekend). I was very pleased with the service, surprised at how nice the room was, and happy with how close to the city. I've paid a lot more for a lot less elsewhere. There was some peeling wallpaper and non-working electrical outlets, but the hotel is currently under renovation, so I'm sure they'll be upgrading the individual rooms. Overall very pleased.

Had a great time - posted on 07/09/2005

We read the reviews for this hotel before we got there and were quite concerned, but we had a wonderful experience! Our room was clean and very comfortable! The staff was very friendly. Our room was very quiet! Check in and check out were very easy. Access to downtown Charleston was very easy! We will definitely stay here again!

Check Your Room Size - posted on 07/05/2005

Excellent view of the river and fireworks on July 4! Although I had reserved a room with two beds (4 adults) they gave me a room with one King bed the first night. They did give me a free rollaway and a new room the next day - but I had to move my own stuff, after they told me it would be done for me!

Don't stay here!!!! - posted on 06/05/2005

Got stuck with this hotel using Priceline, who for some reason gave them 3 stars. Arrived, our room stunk like mold, tried 2 more rooms but they were all the same. Carpet stained, mold in shower, staff unfriendly. Had to buy Lysol spray just to be able to stay there. Thank goodness Charleston was wonderful and all we had to do was sleep in this dump. If we hadn't paid for the room already we would have walked out. Stay away from this place.

Good stay - posted on 04/13/2005

Hotel has attractive features, nice layout, very attentive front desk staff, but lacks TLC. Rooms require more efficient maintenance scheduling, bathrooms showing their age, and lack of caring. Morning buffet breakfast is a disgrace as far as food quality is concerned, but once again, service was at par with better well managed hotels.

Hotel clean but well used. - posted on 03/26/2005

The hotel was o.k. The rooms were clean but well used. The major problem was distance from the city and the hotel did not have a shuttle, which I thought would be very beneficial for customers staying there. We probably would not stay there another time.
