About the Wentworth Mansion

Ranked as one of America’s top 100 luxury hotels, it was originally built as a private home in 1885 for Francis Silas Rodgers, a wealthy businessman and the organizer of the city’s first professional fire department. Designed in the Second Empire Style of France’s Napoleon III, the magnificent interior is finished in mahogany, oak and walnut, and decorated with crystal chandeliers and marble mantels. This is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the city or for a romantic mini-vacation. The hotel’s five-star restaurant, Circa 1886, is a converted carriage house by the mansion gardens and features great Low Country cuisine.

For those wishing to experience how the super rich 19th century Charlestonians lived, this is it--complete with all the bells and whistles of Southern hospitality. Not exactly in the heart of the city, it’s still a nice ten-minute walk to King Street and the downtown district with shopping and attractions. Wentworth Mansion Accommodations

The 21 spacious guest rooms are beautifully decorated with king and queen size sleigh beds. Private marble tiled bathrooms with Jacuzzis are large enough to accommodate two people and some of the rooms have working fireplaces. The rooms also have a mini-refrigerator stocked with complimentary water and soda.

A sumptuous European style breakfast buffet awaits guests before they venture out to explore the city. Every evening complimentary wine, sherry, port and brandy are served in the library with hors d’oeuvres.
