Customer Reviews for Embassy Suites Hotel Charleston - Historic Charleston

Great stay in the heart of historic Charleston - posted on 12/25/2006

The Embassy Suites in historic downtown Charleston was converted from the former Citadel military academy. The hotel common areas are beautiful and the rooms are well appointed. There was even an LCD hi-def TV in the room. The staff was superb...courteous and helpful. And of course, the complimentary cocktails from 5:30-7:30 pm were a nice touch. I would definitely stay there again.

Don't understand the smoke comments. Our room was great. Great backdrops for pictures. Great staff. Helpful.

Needs alot of improvement - posted on 07/01/2006

This hotel is pretty, but that's about all it has going for it. Do yourself and favor and tour it, but stay elsewhere. The rooms are not that comfortable. The non-smoking rooms reek of cigarrette smoke. Smoke seeps into the rooms through the bathrooms. Really, this hotel should be considered an all-smoking hotel. Also there is not enough seating for meals. Lots of people ended up standing or taking breakfast and reception foods to their rooms b/c there was no seating.

Just OK - posted on 04/16/2006

This hotel was way overpriced for what you get. The rooms are historic, but you have no bureau in the bedroom, only one small night table, and a small armiore instead of a closet. You can only hang a few item because the ironing board is also in there. My husband and I had a hard time over our 3 day stay because we had to live out of our suitcases instead of having a place to unpack. Also, can hear kids running up and down the halls all the time. Not worth the money, but the staff was super kind and helpful with all requests.

I liked it - posted on 03/16/2006

This is a very old building, yea the rooms may be small but thats one of the prices you have to pay when you stay in a building that was build in the 1700's. I liked this place very much, I will stay there again.

Great experience, but rooms need paint ! - posted on 08/19/2005

Had an excellent time. Hotel is in a great area of time - close to King Street and Market Square. Great breakfast, pool area clean although pool is a bit small. Managers Reception is fantastic - free drinks and nibbles. Staff were very pleasant. Valet Parking is epensive at $16/day and your car is basically stuck - you can't get it yourself ! Would go back if rooms get a coat of paint.

Not what we expected! - posted on 07/13/2005

Not all Embassy Suites are created equal! These rooms were small and not the cleanest. Location not bad but not really very close to the Market or the Battery. Thought the hotel would be in the middle of it all judging by the prices they charge!

Great Experience - posted on 06/16/2005

The hotel was lovely, service excellent. People very helpful and courteous. The setup for the rooms worked out very well since there were 3 single adults in party. Breakfast and manager's reception was great. I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Charleston.

great time - posted on 04/24/2005

we stayed in a room on the second floor, the bedroom has original brick from the citadel, gun turrets and lots of charm. Yes it was dimly lit and not too convenient for working in the room but it is lovely, the help could not be more helpful and the place was charming if you are a history buff. Good location 1 block from the visitors center. A little pricy but so is everything in the area.

Overpriced! - posted on 03/22/2005

What a disappointment! For the price we paid we expected a whole lot more! Small, cramped, dark room. Had to pay more to even park! Breakfast and free drinks were lacking. Staff not bad but just didn't make up the difference to justify the price!

girls weekend in charleston - posted on 03/07/2005

Rooms are smaller then they appear and noisy. A far walk to the market area. Don't count on self parking you will have to pay for the valet. Breakfast adequate but inferrior to other E.S. daily hospitality reception is nice with free drinks. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful.
