Despite its name, there is no river view from this hotel being several miles from the Ashley River. However, it’s close to Charleston’s medical school and three hospitals, and about 1 ½ miles west of the historic district. Parking is free and guests will receive a permit at check-in. If guests don’t want to drive, a shuttle ($1.25) from a bus stop near the hotel gets into the heart of downtown Charleston in ten minutes. Although the hotel does not have a restaurant, there are several fast-food places within walking distance. This is a good choice for travelers on a budget.

Visitors who don’t mind staying outside the historic Charleston area may find this hotel satisfactory, but it’s not in a location that encourages strolling around the city past sunset. Accommodations and amenities are fine, and its proximity works best for those coming to the city for medical treatment or just needing an inexpensive place to stay. Standard size, but comfortable guest rooms feature two double beds or one king-size bed. Contemporary furnishings include a desk, cable TV with premium channels, coffee/tea maker, private bath with toiletries, hair dryer, complimentary high-speed Internet service and voice mail.

Served in a cozy dining area off the lobby, guests will enjoy the sumptuous complimentary buffet breakfast that includes waffles, cereals, muffins, pastries, fruit, assorted juices, coffee and tea. Hotel amenities also include an outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and a fitness center. Concierge service will assist guests with recreational activities such as golfing, fishing, boating and racquetball. There is a children’s playground nearby.

From Charleston International Airport:
Start out going northeast on Southn Aviation Ave towards Perimeter Rd.
Take The I-26 E Ramp towards Charleston.
From I-26 E, take the US-17 S exit- Exit 221A- toward King St / Savannah.
Continue to follow US-17 S.
The road will change from 3 lanes to 4 lanes that will immediately split, with two lanes going toward US 17S to the left and two lanes going toward Lockwood Drive to the right.
Get in the right hand lane toward Lockwood Drive and do not go over the Ashley River Bridge
. At the light, turn left onto Lockwood Drive, and at the next light turn left on to Bee Street (following the signs to 17 N).
The hotel is on the left past the Hightower Condo Project at 144 Bee Street.
