A Great Stay - posted on 06/03/2007

We enjoyed our stay; the front desk staff were just wonderful and so helpful. Our room was large and the bed comfortable. The bathroom needed a little update and had a couple mildew spots. The location is good; parking is free; the pool is nice. I'd stay here again and would recommend it.

Surprised,unpleasantly - posted on 03/29/2007

Let me say the staff was great. The hotel amentities were very good. The room my wife and I were assigned (room417) was smaller than many closets. The room was so tiny that it was diffecult to get between the bed and the TV. A person should be told before arrival that the room is a converted closet.

Can't Beat the Price - posted on 08/17/2006

Parking is free and the lot is surrounded by the hotel wings giving a feeling of security. The rugs need updating and the wallpaper should be changed but the sheets were clean and the folks working there couldn't have been more pleasant. Anyone on a tight budget will be pleased.

Noisy but clean - posted on 01/23/2006

The room was clean but the hotel was noisy. When I asked for a balcony, I was assuming a private balcony that I could sit out on and have a cup of coffee and relax and enjoy a garden view. Unfortunately, my balcony was attached to the dining room and my view was of the parking deck. We checked out a day early.

Holy Bathtub Batman! - posted on 12/11/2005

The location is perfect and for the price you cant ask for better. You are close to everything. The parking is free for the hotel which is a plus downtown. Problems: Our bathtub pulled away from the wall when you stepped in. You could hear the puddles of the water under the tub when in there. Its an older hotel, but nice. Gave some nice chocolates to my wife for our anniv.

Under Renovation - posted on 10/26/2005

Hotel staff did not mention they were under renovation when reservation was made. There was no restroom close to the restaurant. The front desk was in a hallway until the day before we arrived. Layout was very confusing with the location of workers changing. The bathtubs are 4 feet instead of 5 feet. The location in the historic district was the only advantage.

Good value - posted on 10/14/2005

Great location! Walking distance to shops, restaurants and Historic Battery District. Good price in this area of Charleston. Rooms clean. Weird layout of lobby to restaurant. Would stay again because of price and location.

unhappy in charleston - posted on 09/10/2005

we paidf for non-smokling and it wasn't non-smoking all our clothes smelt like smoke the next day. we didn't like the check in since we are 51 years old we should not have to put up a credit card for incidentals. that is rude to ask for from prepaid clients. no coffee anywhere in the building 24 hours a day. very hard beds. very unhappy!!!!!!!!!

Excellent Location and Stay For the Price - posted on 09/05/2005

I could not have been more pleased with our hotel. The room was very clean and nice and the staff was excellent. They had a wine and cheese reception daily and brought towels out to you when you were at the pool. Internet access and coffee and ice water were all available to you 24 hrs a day. The location was excellent - we were within walking distance to nearly everything and when we did drive, we only had to drive a couple of miles to get where we wanted to go. I will definitely look this place up when I go to Charleston again.

Park & Walk - posted on 08/30/2005

Excellent location in walking distance of Market and historic area. Lots of great restaurants nearby, along with pickup points for all carriage & van tours. Unlike many other Best Westerns hotels, Continental breakfast here is NOT free. Wine & cheese social each afternoon IS free, but has speaker soliciting for tours (some more interesting than others). Our King room was nice, updated, & clean, but door hardware falling off and difficult to lock. Only rooms with view will be corner King rooms. Balconies with rocking chairs only overlook center courtyard area which is the parking lot.

Never Again - posted on 05/01/2005

Rooms & furnishing are old. Mold & mildew in bath & shower. Pool was closed for repairs. Big disappointment but learned a lesson about reading reviews online. Should have listened.

I enjoyed the location and the service with the 'mixer' in the afternoon on the mezzanine. The room was clean and comfortable. I would like to visit again.

Enjoyed our stay - posted on 02/10/2005

Rooms are very roomy, Love the location and free parking. The wine and cheese social everyday is wonderful. I would definitley stay there again. Cosmetically our room could use some updating. Nothing matched. Other than that it is a very nice and safe place to stay. Also, the staff was very nice and accommodating. It's all that you could hope for in a hotel.

Not What I Expected - posted on 12/06/2004

The good: this hotel is convenient to the historic district; can walk to everything; cheaper than most hotels in the area; room was clean. The bad: the room decor was outdated; had to hang clothes in the sink area (too crowded); while in the shower/toilet area, could hear every word the neighbor spoke; the furniture didn't fit in the room and some was turned sideways; lobby was very small; the hotel is old, but not in a good way; very strange layout. Will not be staying in this hotel again. It was not what I expected; not like the description on their website.

Excellent location and service - posted on 11/19/2004

Location is PERFECT, free parking a big plus, and service was phenomenal for this class of hotel. Rooms were adequate and comfortable and about what I expected for the price. Again, service was fantastic. Recommended when you need a "place to stay" to enjoy Charleston, but this is not a "destination" resort. Only SOME parts don't have elevator, by the way.
