Not what we expected - posted on 03/04/2007
Reserved a "KING" waterview room, but when we got up to the room, it was a full bed, not a king. When we told the front desk they said that was all that was available, even though my credit card was charged for a king room at the time of the reservation. No credit was offered.

We enjoyed everything about this hotel. Nice room, comfortable bed, great outdoor pool surrounded by water with sailboats going by, and they even have hammocks and ping pong tables. Friendly staff and convenient shuttle into town.

the hyatt hotel is located on the small island named goat island. it's a short walk over the bridge to the visitors center. the views from the hotel are beautiful, the salt water pool is a wonderful experience, and the restaurants are enjoyable. the hotels overall appearance needs improvements and bathrooms need upgrading.

this is an example of a Hyatt property in need of a makeover-it's barely a 3 star.

For $X/night and a 4 star rating, was hoping to really be "wow"ed by my room...instead a bit disappointed, especially by the outdated, old, small, dark bathroom. Charging for parking was a toal joke! Shuttle service to middle of town was a nice feature. Stayed in the "Captain's Quarters" and unsure what benefit came with the extra charge. Probably wouldn't stay there again.
Way overpriced - posted on 04/24/2005
Charging $14.00 for parking, charging for lobby coffee, Way overpriced, food in restaurant was cold and overpriced !!
Overprized! - posted on 02/28/2005
Being a Hyatt regular I found this a very disappointing stay due to small room, parking lot view (only by leaning far over to the side water view as advertised). Closed indoor pool and very limited outdor pool hours, average food and mediocre staff. Valet parking was a joke! Not very family friendly. Very little for a lot of money.

We came to Newport for New Year's Eve and couldn't have found a better place. The staff was very courteous and helpful, the rooms very clean and well maintained. Could not beat the view, over looking the harbor. The best spot to view the fireworks! While it would probably be best to include the price of parking into the room rate, it was a small inconvienence for all this hotel has to offer. Will definately be back!
