Customer Reviews for Avalon Hotel and Spa

Great Gem. - posted on 11/14/2006

The property is a bit off the beaten track for location. However, the property does have "London Taxi" transfers to downtown, the Rivers complex which has several fine dining restaurants and shops. I only had breakfast at the hotel so I am not able to rate the lunch and dinner experience. Front desk staff was extremely helpful.

What good is a nice room if can hear neighbor? - posted on 03/21/2007

If you stay here please be aware you will be able to hear your neighbor's conversation word for word, their alarm go off, curtain open and everything else. As you can imagine this will mean your sleep is disturbed. I complained and the front desk said they would talk to a manager and "see if they could make our stay more comfortable" but never head back. Also we were awakened at 5am Sunday morning by staff delivering newspapers by dropping them in front of each door. Bring earplugs. Too expensive for these types of issues.

Decent Plce - posted on 03/15/2007

Great hotel, staff very friendly, beautiful rooms and bathrooms, very comfortable beds, nice patio. Didn't use spa or room service. Soundproofing between rooms was terrible, $15 parking charge for no reason.

Outstanding - posted on 03/13/2007

The Avalon is a first class operation. The rooms are spacious, CLEAN, and tastefully decorated. The location is set on the Willamette River which includes a long walking path from Downtown Portland to the Sellwood Bridge. Restaurant is closed due to construction and you have to pay for parking. $15/day. The parking was the only issue I had. Didn't get a chance to try the Spa but I will come back without a doubt.

Fantastic Get-Away Spot - posted on 02/12/2007

What a tremendous surprise. The Avalon provided top-notch customer service and the room was very comfortable with an excellent view. I love it and I will be back.

Lack of professionalism only blemish on my stay. - posted on 01/24/2007

The rooms were beautiful, comfortable & clean. The staff however spent a lot of time giggling & gossiping with one another. When I asked the front desk about the restaurant next door I overheard several employees who had all congregated there make disparaging comments about it. The next day there were two spa techs that were loudly chit-chatting in the hall outside my room. When I poked my head out to investigate the source of the noise was they scowled at me. My stay really was nice; the staff just needs to be taught how to act around guests.

Pleasantly Surprise - posted on 10/17/2006

I just got back from my Portland visit and I must say this hotel is great. The staff was very helpful. The room was clean and cozy. I two things I didn't like about this hotel is that you have to pay for parking and that it allowed pets inside. The parking cost was $15/night and this hotel will not be good for anyone allergic to pets. Other than those two things, I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

Very Pleasant experience - posted on 10/11/2006

The service-front desk, valet, dining, and hotel room staff was excellent. Trees should be trimmed in front of river so view from room is not obstructed. We had only one bed but front desk had a roll-a-way at our door in less than 5 minutes and it was as comfortable as our king bed! Awesome bathroom with separate shower and tub. On site restaurant had great cuisine and the manager remembered us from our first night when he was at the front desk as we were checking in.

Near Downtown - posted on 09/02/2006

Avalon is a very nice hotel affilated with a very good restaruant. It is sitting on the Willamette river and a bike/running path. hile only a short distance from downtown, it is a difficult travel. Use the hotels free limo service. Rooms are nice, but will need to be updated in a couple of years to keep up quality

It was shocking that we had to pay for parking at this hotel. The hotel is set in an industrial park, with a large lot that wasn't 1/2 full. Paying $15 for parking in addition to the room rate, seemed over the top. The setting on the river is beautiful but not worth the money.

Wonderful! - posted on 04/12/2006

The hotel was amazing and for the price it was even more amazing. Beautiful rooms with gorgeous bathrooms! Although they only have a limited number of double bed rooms, you can request a cot for free. It's really not far from downtown and it's so quiet and peaceful if you get a river view. I highly recommend the finess area and the spa facilities! I had a great stay. Parlking is 15 dollars a night regardless if you valet or self park.

Avalon Hotel-great place to stay - posted on 04/11/2006

I really enjoyed my stay here! It was very clean, new, and the room was gorgeous for such a great price. The bed was really comfortable! I had a view of the river along with my own balcony. The only complaint I have is the lighting. The bathroom lights were not conducive to makeup application. But even that wasn't bad. Totally recommend it!

Oasis - posted on 01/31/2005

If you want to be away from the city center, or don't mind driving a couple of miles, this hotel is an oasis--calm, quiet, peaceful; on a pleasant river, with a great restaurant attached.
