Back in 1889, it was made famous when it became a territory open to settlers. Within a day the city had over 10,000 new inhabitants. In 1928 it got a new burst of residents when oil was discovered. Decades later, Oklahoma City continues to be proud of its roots and youll be able to enjoy its heritage and the wonderful sites it has to offer.

See Oklahoma City at its best when you explore the Historic Bricktown area. Once an industrial section of the city, the Bricktown has become a favorite place to visit for both locals and tourists. The wonderful Bricktown Canal is the focal point in the area and many fine restaurants, cafes and clubs have built around it. Its also a great place to go shopping. For a unique experience, climb on board a water taxi and look at the Bricktown at a new angle. Although the Opry in Oklahoma City isnt too well known, youll really enjoy a performance here. Its been around for over twenty years and offers great Gospel and Country shows. A place you might be doing a little praying could be at the racetrack. And all bets are on at the Remington Race Track. Featuring world-class racing on a state of the art racetrack, this is the place to be for those who love horse racing. They also offer fantastic dining options so it makes for a nice evening out. And for those that cant get enough, youll be happy to know that the track is open at night as well.

A definite must when youre visiting here is the Stockyards City, the largest cattle market in the world. Once used as a slaughterhouse, its now a site for weekly cattle auctions. The area known as Cowtown is filled with great western shops including general stores and tack shops. Youll find authentic western gear here as well. Hey you never know a real cowboy might even help you pick out your saddle. And whether its morning, noon or night, the 24-hour beef restaurant has got you covered.

As regrettable as it is for the Oklahoma City National Memorial to exist, this stunning building is a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives at the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building back on April 19, 1995. And for those traveling with you that dream of becoming a rescue hero, a visit to the Fire Fighters Museum is a real treat. Look at antique fire trucks that date back to 1736 and other historic memorabilia. Youll even see Oklahoma Citys very first firehouse.

Catch a glimpse of what life was like back in day as you walk through the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, which opened in 1955, and look at the beautiful art and sculptures that reflect both contemporary and classic Western art. Theres a great restaurant located here as well. Enjoy high tea, a buffet or a light snack at Persimmon Hill. Visiting the Governors Mansion will take you back in time as well. This beautiful 1928 building was designed in the Dutch Colonial style and is a wonderful place to explore what life was like for the Oklahoma City Governor.

Enjoy the wide-open spaces of Oklahoma City as you visit its beautiful parks. Located in the heart of the city, the Myriad Botanical Gardens provide a fantastic escape from the city life. Its hard to believe youre actually in a city when you stroll through the 17-acre grounds, walk under a 35-foot waterfall and see the exotic plant life from around the globe. Prefer some wildlife when you enjoy the great outdoors? Visiting the Oklahoma City Zoo is a treat for the entire family. Home to 1,500 interesting animals youll enjoy learning about these fascinating creatures as you stroll through the beautiful grounds and gardens. Take a ride on the Safari Tram or on the Endangered Species Carousel. Enjoy the rock climbing wall and the Swan Paddleboats. The zoo also has many great exhibits. The Cat Forest and Lion Overlook is a favorite for cat lovers. For those who enjoy the thrill of rides, make your way to the Frontier City Theme Park. True to its roots, youll experience the joy of rides set in a 1880s western town. With over 75 rides and lots of great attractions, youll enjoy the OK Corral, raft rides and the Timber Town, a special place just for the little cowboy and cowgirls traveling with you. Need to cool off? Make your way to White Water Bay. With over 30 water rides, pools and slides to entertain you, this water park is sure get everyone soaked before you leave.

Although there are a lot of fantastic hotels throughout the city, the Biltmore Hotel is one of the states largest and shows you true hospitality.
