Charlotte is the number one tourist destination for the Carolina’s. A visit here and you’ll soon see why. Although it offers everything a big city should, it prides itself with their small town hospitality. As you stroll through the streets gazing at the city skyline, shops, restaurants and museums, you somehow feel like this could be home. Perhaps it’s the fine art museums that will draw you. Or it could be the need for speed. Whatever your interest, you’ll enjoy exploring the many faces of Charlotte.

Enjoy the big outdoors? There are over 14,000 acres of parks for you to visit. The Metro Zoo has a fantastic ensemble of wild animals for you to learn about and is a great way to spend a day. Feel that cowboy in you itching to roam free? The Lazy 5 Ranch is home to over 600 animals. You can drive through this ranch in a car or for a unique experience you can go in a horse-drawn wagon. Yee haw! Animals may not be your thing. No worries. Outdoor lovers will enjoy the Balloons Over Carolina. They offer a one-hour balloon ride over Charlotte, providing a fantastic view of the city.

Feeling lucky? The Reed Gold Mine is a great place to learn about America’s first gold discovery. You should note that John Reed, the original owner found a large yellow rock one day and decided to use it as a door stop for over three years. Turns out it weighed 17 pounds and was actually gold. Go figure. Maybe you’ll find a nugget of your own.

Art enthusiasts will enjoy the Mint Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design. The Mint Museum provides collections of American, pre-Columbian, Asian and African art. They also house decorative arts, historic costumes and accessories, historic maps and lots more. The Mint Museum of Craft and Design showcases contemporary studio craft. Artists and those that appreciate it will enjoy the collection of ceramics, fiber, glass, metal and wood.

And then there’s the car racing. Charlotte has quite a reputation for speed and is known as the Mecca of Motorsports. The Lowe’s Motor Speedway is home to the Nascar Nextel cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series races, stock car driving schools and lots more. Tours are available and if there’s a speed lover traveling with you, they’ll love coming to this sacred racing ground.

Need even more speed? Enter the world of Paramount Carowinds. This fantastic theme park is spread over 105-acres and is home to over 50 hair-raising rides. Need to cool off? No worries, the water park is a great way to get soaked.

Enjoy the southern hospitality as you stroll along the streets and enjoy a great dinner. Experience the rush of Nascar or a ride at Paramount Carowinds. Wander a real ranch or try to find gold. Charlotte really does offer something for everyone.
