North Carolina is a beautiful state filled with interesting sites, stunning scenery and great outings for you to experience. It is proud of the top ranked universities that call it home, great festivals and the role it played in the fight for equality. Today you’ll find many of its wonderful cities an ideal place to enjoy a great vacation.

The parks in North Carolina have thousands of acres for you to explore. The fantastic countryside and scenery though isn’t limited to just that. One of the best outings for you to enjoy is the Lazy 5 Ranch. Whether you chose to drive with the vehicle or a horse-drawn carriage, you can see over 600 fantastic creatures up close. Perhaps that’s a bit too close for you. Make your way to the Metro Zoo where you’ll see many wild and exotic animals... all at a safe distance. Nature enthusiasts love the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are wonderful hiking and biking paths for you to explore and although it takes a lot of effort to get to the top, the view is absolutely worth it. The Sarah P. Duke Gardens is a great alternative for those not interested in working up a sweat to see nature up close. Spanning over 55 acres and home to 2,000 kinds of plants you’ll love wandering the pathways that lead you to ponds and waterfalls. Perhaps it comes as no surprise then that North Carolina has some of the very best golf courses in the nation. Water lovers have plenty to enjoy as well. The coasts are as spectacular as the landscapes. The Atlantic Ocean provides you with plenty of water activities, including boat cruises and deep-sea fishing.

North Carolina houses many fantastic museums. The Mint Museum has an impressive collection of American, pre-Columbian, Asian and African art. The Mint Museum of Craft and Design showcases works created by more contemporary artists. The North Carolina Museum of Art includes pieces from Monet and Chardin among many others. It spreads over 180,000 feet and also has a 100-acre park filled with sculptures and paths. The Museum of History is a great place to explore if you’re interested in the past, as is the Museum of Natural Sciences. There are of course many other museums and galleries located throughout the state. The hard part will be deciding which ones you’ll have time to visit.

Learn more about North Carolina’s history as you tour the carefully restored and preserved sites. There are numerous places that showcase its involvement in the Civil War. The Village Street, located in Mordecai Historic Park, has many fantastic buildings. Another place worth visiting is the plantation house where President Andrew Johnson lived. If you want to see an impressive home make your way to the Biltmore Estate. Built by George Vanderbilt in the late 1800s it is the largest home in the country.

No holiday would be complete without a little shopping. The State Farmers Market is one of the best in the nation. Spreading across 75 acres you’ll love wandering through the stalls that feature handmade crafts and homegrown treats. North Carolina is home to one of the best racecar tracks as well. The Lowe’s Motor Speedway, known as the Mecca of Motorsports, hosts many fantastic races throughout the season. Your adrenaline will be pumping after watching one of the races and what better place to let loose then at the Paramount Carowinds. This is a great theme park that has more than 50 rides and its nearby water park is an ideal place to cool off.

The history, beautiful scenery, unique sites and friendly people help make North Carolina a top destination for any vacationer because there’s always something new to explore.
