Customer Reviews for 70 Park Avenue Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel

Loved it! - posted on 08/03/2005

We weren't sure what to expect but this hotel exceeded our expectations! The staff was friendly and very helpful always offering to get us a cab or help us find a restaurant, etc. It is a good location - close to all the fun stuff like Broadway, restaurants but far enough away to be peaceful. The beds were heavenly and the a/c wonderfully cool. I loved this place and would definately come back again.

Disappointed - posted on 07/29/2005

We were very disappointed with our experience at this hotel. When we arrived we were told that the room was not ready and that it would be just a few minutes. It took them an hour and a half to accomplish this, while we sat in a stifling lobby and restaurant where the air conditioning was not working. The next morning the air conditioning was still not working in the lobby and restaurant, but, being in a hurry, we endured the heat and paid extremely high prices for a couple of bagels. A bad experience all around. I will never stay there again.

Wonderful Trip! - posted on 07/06/2005

This is our second time to NY and the hotel was spectacular. As most NY hotels the room was small, but very elegant. We stayed in a room with two VERY comfortable double beds. The room had a LARGE flat panel plasma tv with DVD/CD player and FREE wireless internet access. The hotel is located just blocks from the Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue, Central Park, etc. We walked to all of the above locations without any problems. It was a great experience and I highly recommend the 70 Park Avenue Hotel.

CHEATED - posted on 05/22/2007

for $*/night, we got a tiny closet. Literally, there were only 18 inches all around the full size bed, we had no room to store our luggage. We had to turn sideways to get into the bathroom. when sitting on the toilet, the wall is only 6 inches from you face, tight! Air conditioner had problems, electrical breaker kept tripping, sink was leaking at the drain, smoke alarm was not working. definitely will not return.

Needs improvement! - posted on 01/09/2007

At $*/night, I expected much more than I received. Upon arrival, the plasma TV was broken and I requested a room change. I received the typical management response, "We're completely booked for today, but we'll try to get you something tomorrow." The next day, they did move me. However, my new room was right next to internal hotel construction and I was also greeted by the biggest cockroach I've ever seen. For the money, there are much better places in NYC!

THe hotel was lovely. The bar was trend and had a good vibe. Location was great for sightseeing and shopping. Only complaint was that the walls were rather thin and Icould here what was going on in the other guest room (and inversly what was going on in my room).

I was a frequent guest at the hotel over the past several years. The overall condition of the hotel has deteriorated and the staffing levels and service are not comensurate with the price. Will not stay again.

Great for a Girl Trip! - posted on 09/17/2006

There were 5 of us for a girl trip to NYC. This hotel definitely caters to women which we loved. The complimentary wine hour is perfect right before dinner. For first time NYC travelers you can't beat the quiet and convenient location.

Park Ave. Deal - posted on 08/02/2006

This was a very nice up scale hotel in a very convenient location. The staff was helpful and very pleasant. Many things were within walking distance but, it was very hot in the city this time of year, which limited walking distances. The room was good size, and comfortable. The electrical service was testy (it's an old building) so breakers tripped using hair dryers, a slight pain. This would not stop me from staying there again, as everything else made up for it. It was a great experience.

The hotel was pleasant, however, the rooms are small, and no coffee provisions in them.We were suppose to have a deluxe room king size bed, the first night, we had a very small double bed with a view of a brick wall, when I ask to be changed they said no room avail, and no adjustment on price. The deluxe room was avail the next day, however, I feel we paid to much the first night, when I said I booked through a third party they said they do not guarantee room type, I said I paid for a room type, but it did not change things.

Unhappy honeymooner - posted on 06/07/2006

We were not treated very well at all. We were put in the wrong room and were not credited the differance. Our airconditioner and our electric went out and it took them 8 hours to flip a switch for us. When I went to the front desk crying to talk to a manager I told them i was on my honeymoon and very unhappy they told me i had paid already and there was nothing they could do. On my last day the concirege told me they would send us a free 2 night stay we have still not recieved it.

If you are looking for a New York affordable hotel this might be it as long as you aren't spending any amount of time in the room. It was small and the tv needs replaced but we didn't come to New York to watch tv or spending time in the room. the location was perfect, it was clean and the staff was very pleasant.

expensive, but good - posted on 04/21/2006

I traveled here for business and was very impressed with the service. The rooms are very nice; the volume on the tv wasn't working, but they sent someone up to fix it promptly. I would never stay here on my dime, but a nice place to go when the company's paying for it

THIS IS A GREAT HOTEL. ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL, LARGE, CLEAN. LARGE PLASMA TV's IN ROOM, FREE MORNING COFFEE AND EVENING WINE TASTING. GREAT STAFF AND LOCATION. WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN. ONLY DRAW BACK WAS PEOPLE ACROSS THE HALL HAD A DOG THAT ALWAYS BARKED. PET FRIENDLY HOTEL, NOT NECESSARILY GUEST FRIENDLY HOTEL.

Our daughter had just moved to NY and works two blocks from the hotel on Park so we chose this hotel for location. We had never been to NY before and were pleasantly surprised to find the 70 Park Ave Hotel. We had a small room the first night but they up graded us to a larger room for the rest of our stay. Beds were comfortable, great bathroom amenities, nice wine hour every evening in the lobby and the food at the Silver Leaf Tavern was very tasty. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. This will be our hotel of choice for all visits!

Wonderful, Kid-Friendly Staff - posted on 03/30/2006

I arrived at the front desk with my son and a friend of his who lives in NYC, who was going to have a sleepover with us. We asked for a room with a view of the Empire State Building and they said those rooms wouldn't be comfortable for the three of us, but they'd be happy to upgrade us to a deluxe king with a rollaway bed for no extra charge. The room service waiter apologized for the high prices, the doormen always greeted us with a big smile, and the front desk staff seemed delighted to have kids.

The best night sleep EVER - posted on 03/23/2006

I have to say, I have been to New York at least 12 times in the past 10 years. We've stayed in at least that many hotels. I have found the one I will be staying at for now on. The staff was great, the rooms were big for NY. The beds were heaven. From the maid service to the bellhop, everyone was accomodating and friendly. The location was good, too. Close to everything. I will definately be back.

smaller room than expected - posted on 03/23/2006

The room we got was much smaller than expected, and no yoga amenities as they advertised. There was a problem with one of the room lights, and nobody ever came to fix it. The decor and lobby was classy and tasteful though.

It is a very quaint hotel, just minutes from anywhere with grand central only 3 blocks up the street, There are some smaller rooms that you want to steer clear of. most are spacious.

Clean elegance - posted on 01/30/2006

I stayed in this hotel 20 years ago when it was the Doral Park Avenue. The renovation really opened up the lobby and the rooms are larger with the kitchenettes removed. The design is clean and elegant but not fussy. Gratis wine hour every evening and coffee/tea service every morning was unexpected and welcome.

Great Time in NYC - posted on 05/25/2005

NYC is a great place to visit. This was my first time and the hotell was a great choice. Just a quick 4 block walk from Grand Central and Short walks to Central Park, 3rd Ave, 5ave, Times Square. Short Subway ride to Ground Zero. The only complaint I had is the week was unsesonable warm and the A/C wasen't working the room was quite hot at night. Our room had windows that could open but there was some loud air exchange units outside. They did however provide us with a fan and you will be out all night checking out the sites so you should be tiered when you get back. Great way to See NYC

70 Park Avenue - Location! - posted on 05/12/2005

So this place is in a great location. Just three blocks from Grand Central means you have easy access to subway and trains. It is in a great neighborhood. The rooms are well spaced for NYC and the bathrooms are beautiful. Unfortunately, the bathroom has an odd feature due to lack of space. A sliding door that doesn't quite close off the bathroom. Also, the TV sound system was on the fritz, but was fixed after I complained twice. The heating problem is true, we couldn't get the room to cool down, thermostats are just there in anticipation of upgrades... Otherwise, a nice place to stay.
