Customer Reviews for Ramada Plaza New Yorker Hotel

Great place to stay - posted on 08/05/2006

We enjoyed our 4 night stay. The Ramada Plaza New Yorker was a great value and close to Time Square and within a reasonable walking distance to many of the places we wanted to visit. Our room was clean and we had clean comfortable beds. Service was also satisfactory. My one and only dislike was the smell in the hallway on the 23rd floor. I realize this is an older building and quess that may be the reason for the musky smell but other than that I would most definitely stay here again.

Room Is Extremely Small - posted on 05/16/2007

I enjoyed being in the heart of downtown. Walking distance to many things including the subway. But the size of the room left alot to be desired.

Not Again - posted on 03/29/2007

My wife and I stayed overnight b/c of the price and location. Not worth it!! The rooms was too small to navigate, the bed rock hard, the bathroom too small. Also, b/c it was raining, we were kept up all night by dripping on the wall unit air conditioner. From now on, we will pay more to stay somewhere nicer!!!

good for the money - posted on 01/27/2007

while the place is not fancy, i use it when I go to MSG, its also about 10 blocks from Times Square and across the street from Macys. I would not want to spend more than 2 nites here. I will stay here again. great subway access. lots of food around. good security

Great Hotel - posted on 12/04/2006

Was in NYC for a girls w/e and the New Yorker is an excellent hotel! The staff was great and very attentive..can't beat the location..1 block from the subway and 34th st. shopping right around the corner. The beds weren't very comfortable and the room is old, but it's perfect for the price. Would definitely stay there again.

The New Yorker at Thanksgiving - posted on 11/30/2006

We stayed for 4 days/3 nights on the 20th floor. EVERYTHING was within walking distance, clean, lots of elevators, and a friendly, helpful staff. The history of this place is intoxicating. Will be back, for sure!!

Scary rooms at high rates - posted on 10/26/2006

As noted by other reviewers, it is convenient to Penn Station/MSG, but the rooms are very scary. Old furniture & dirty walls abound. Our group had 4 rooms of varying size - all small! Bellman/Doorman service is poor, Front Desk was OK, Maid service was good - they can't replace the carpets or the furniture, but did replace towels and make the bed. The bathroom had new tile floor, but original tiles on walls & tub - toilet in odd location made it hard to have a seat - sink had no spigot, the water flows out 2" from the drain - NOT sanitary!

Less than average - posted on 10/20/2006

The hotel looks great from the outside, and the lobby is fantastic. The rooms however, are dirty, small, have limited facilities, and the "High speed internet access" is pathetic. It's wireless, which if you get a 5% connection then you are doing well. I found myself continually moving around the room looking for a better connection, and not getting one. The whole hotel is not clean, the corridors and walkways above the 2nd floor look like they have not been decorated for decades. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, but I would recommend paying a few dollars more and going elsewhere.

I would stay again - posted on 09/18/2006

I stayed one night with a large group, Everyone said they would stay at the New Yorker again. The location was the best part of the hotel. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable. The rooms are small but comfortable.

One nighter - posted on 07/16/2006

I stayed in New York overnight after I attended the WNBA ALL Star game. It it is across from the Garden and Penn station and since I went by train from Maryland it was very convenient. For the price, I guess it was OK. The rooms are very small, with old furniture. The bathroom had mold in the tub. The hallways were dark and needed painting. In the morning I could hear the cleaning staff closing (more like slaming) and opening doors, as well as people flushing toilets and taking showers. For the price and the convenience of bein in the middle of things, I guess it was OK.

classic NY experience - posted on 03/22/2006

This hotel is so old its in again. I was really worried when I went down the hall to my room. Once in the room though, it was quite nice. The bed was firm, bathroom was clean and functional and my junior suite had a balcony! The heater was very noisy and I had to turn it off at night. Get the continental breakfast with your room rate. Its in a renovated room on the 39th floor. Great views of the city and decent food.

Good bargain for location and history - posted on 02/24/2006

This hotel is near many of the attractions that one visits NYC for. I found the staff to excellent and the dining good. The rooms are small compared to those in the South but I'm told by transplants that they are large compared to same priced hotels. This is an old hotel and the bathrooms and noises are part of the charm. I stayed in a hotel at Niagara Falls that was just as old with the bathroom and noise. The room was nicer but the price was more than double this hotel price. I would stay at the New Yorker again.

Dont waste your money staying here - posted on 01/10/2006

The room was filthy. The carpets smelled. The beds were lumpy. There was duct tape around the window air conditioner. There was visible mold in the bathroom. I could hear toilets flushing and showers in adjoining rooms. The room was tiny. The hallways reminded me of a seedy apartment building. They were scary and dark. My mother was with me visiting NY. She is from Ireland. It was embarrassing for me to think I booked us into this filthy hotel. Lesson learned the hard way. Next time I will read reviews.

It all depends on the room... - posted on 10/21/2005

Staff from my firm stayed here the week prior to our stay: one said "It's what you'd expect for a 40 year old Ramada" and my boss said "It sucks!". Our rooms had great views, and our expectations were low, so we were fine.

Spend a little more and stay some place nicer - posted on 10/19/2005

The lobby of this hotel was very nice, but once you step off of the elevator, everything is dank and dark. The carpet in the room was damp and the room is absolutely tiny. The room reeked of cheapness and age. The location was nice, but that perk is tarnished once you see your room.

Great deal! - posted on 08/31/2005

After reading the reviews, I was a little skeptical but the price was good so I booked it. I was not disappointed. The rooms need to be updated (carpet, bathroom) and a bit small but my daughter and I were on a shopping trip and spent little time in the room. It was very clean, the staff was very helpful, the food was good, the location is excellent (right across from the train station) and you can't beat all of that for the price. I've stayed at other hotels that did not stand up to par but this hotel was very good. I would definitely stay here again for sure.

Improvement needed - posted on 05/23/2005

While the hotel is acceptable, there is much to be improved. The hotel is old and needs a lot of refurbishing. Carpets and wall papers need to be changed. Doors slam noisily.

Can't beat the price - posted on 05/08/2005

We stayed here for a trade show. At first I gasped at the room size (I'd stayed here 12 years ealier but I think I had a double room instead) but then remember this IS NYC, we weren't going to be hanging out in our rooms. Very centrally located

Made the stay pleasant - posted on 03/29/2005

You couldn't ask for a better location. The 24 hour diner adjacent to the hotel was perfect for early and late night meals on the go. Main city attractions within walking distance and perfect for a tourist. An older hotel, but the staff was excellent and were quick to accommodate.

extremley disappointing - posted on 03/28/2005

The lobby was very nice. The hall ways were DIRTY and DINGEY! The room was small, sheets did not fit the beds, we could not let the kids play on the floor!! The carpets were disgusting!! And the bathroom was VERY outdated. My son got burnt taking a shower. This is not a place for small children to be in~ too dirty!

Great location and view - posted on 02/21/2005

This is a beautiful hotel in a good location. We has a great view of the skyline from our room. We could get anywhere in just a few minutes. The only problem we had was our bathroom was not very clean when we arrived.
