Very New York - posted on 01/05/2006
My son and I stayed at the Algonquin to catch a Broadway play and do a little sightseeing. We were right in the heart of NYC and could walk everywhere. The hotel was full of character and the very polite and helpful staff took great pride in the Algonquin's history. Everything was excellent, the hotel is beautiful throughout, and the beds are incredibly comfortable. I'll be back.
EXCELLENT CHOICE!!! - posted on 12/21/2005
Charming, history-rich boutique hotel in Midtown! Very nice and clean hotel centrally located to many great Manhatten locations. The regular rooms are small (but its New York!)--but clean and excellent room service and hotel staff!--All were very helpful and even helped plan a perfect birthday surprise!!! I will definately stay at the Algonquin again--I can't wait!!! Great deal for the money!!!

The staff was wonderful, the room is small but very comfortable, best sleep I have ever had on a hotel bed. Room service was fast and curtious. The entire trip was very enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Algonquin to every one. Loved the Algonquin Cat.
Great Hotel - posted on 09/01/2005
This is a great hotel. The staff went out of their way several times, to make our stay enjoyable - directions, restaurant recommendations, and being playful with the kids. The location is near Times Square, but far enough away to avoid the crush of people. The suite was perfectly sized, and the beds were comfortable. Just a very positive experience.

The hotel staff at the Algonquin made us feel at home the second we walked through the door. Our Premier Queen room was bigger than I expected (a lot of NYC hotel rooms are the size of broom closets), which made me happy. And it was tastefully decorated, with a nod to the hotel's art deco past - nothing frilly - which made my boyfriend happy. The impressively-appointed, bustling lobby is worth the trip itself!
Outstanding Visit - posted on 08/01/2005
My daughter and I stayed at the Algonquin the last week of August. In the midst of terrific heat, the staff went above and beyond to make sure guests were comfortable. The locations of only a few blocks from Times Square is wonderful. Close enough to truly enjoy it, far enough away to not hear it! The rooms are very comfortable and lovely. I can't emphasis enough how wonderful the staff is at the Algonquin. This was our first trip to NYC and I won't stay anyplace else the next time I visit.
Fabulous Hotel - posted on 03/18/2005
The hotel and staff are gorgeous, and is ideally situated especially for 5th Avenue, time sq, and central park. We took breakfast twice in the hotel and twice next door at the Red Flame diner, and really although, the ambience isn't quite the same... the food was better(and half the price) at the red flame. The staff all made us feel very special, particularly my mother whoes birthday was celebrated during our stay. I can't wait to return. Oh you must have cocktails in the lobby and people watch.

Had a great time staying at the Algonquin. The front desk, Bellman, and Concierge were great help planning our days in New York. Super location and always felt safe walking anywhere.

We loved this Hotel. We were made to feel so much at home. The lobby is such an inviting cozy place. The room we had was probably the smallest but it was cozy and well laid out. Flat screen TV. The softest sheets. Would defineately go back. The history of the palce is also so nice.
Very nice hotel with terrible street noise - posted on 03/29/2007
We stayed at the Algonquin for 6 nights. The lobby is great, we loved the cat, Matilda. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. Why only three smiley faces?? We were on the 7th floor facing the street. The noise level from the street made sleeping almost impossible. Also the blinds were not black out. We requested another room but none were available. Finally we resorted to sleeping with pillows over our heads! There was only a shower and since I was soooo tired I sure could have used a nice long soak in a tub! This hotel would be great if only I could have gotten some sleep.
I adored this hotel! - posted on 03/28/2007
I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! I was so close to times square and all the good shopping, but not so close that you get all the noise and craziness. Also, THE BED!! I would not be exaggerating when I say this is absolutely the most wonderful bed I have ever laid on...room was clean, nice deep bathtub to take a bath in, shower had great water pressure and warm water, LCD flatscreen tv with like 40 channels, free Wifi in room, friendly staff, good food...and Matilda the "resident feline" is so cute! I would stay there again in a hearbeat!!

4 friends stayed here in April 2006 as a rendevous before we all moved away from one another. our suite was perfect size for the 4 of us, rooms were clean and the staff treated us well. especially liked the friendly bellmen/doormen, they gave us tips on NYC. this quaint NYC hotel is in a perfect location for theather and shopping, perfect for a girls' getaway. felt safe walking any time of the day and would stay there again.

Rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious for Manhattan. The staff is friendly and helpful. And the lobby is beautiful - takes you back to the heyday of the hotel, well preserved and a nice place to hang out for a drink.

this was our first vacation together in 10 years of our relationship. we came to see two broadway shows. the hotel was very nice and the stafff was uperb. however the rooms were so small and ridiculiously expensive. my other half sent for his aunt and paid for her to stay at the hotel. the price was ridiculious. other than that it was a great stay close to everything

If you are not wedded to five star hotels with large rooms, The Algonquin is a gem of a hotel, full of character ambience and history. Dont miss the opportunity to walk down the hallways and read the Dorothy Parker quotes on the doors. Spend time in the lobby, have a drink and watch. Great Location.
Another great New York trip. - posted on 09/08/2006
The hotel is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the room was very clean. The bed was the most comfortable we have ever had in a hotel/motel room. The rooms are a little small but they are well equiped and spotless.
Algonquin NYC - posted on 09/08/2006
Great location for many reasons and taste's. The ultimate plus of this hotel is its ambiance of "old world," NY charm and prestige. I sit and read in the "club" lobby for hours. The rooms are small but fresh and clean with deep soaking tubs. The food was great and the Pop Overs served with dinner are addicting. Its an all-in-one treat. I felt no need to leave the hotel for dinner. I just stayed in and enjoyed my time. Staying at the Algonquin is an event.

If you are looking for a Hotel in the middle of Manhattan that is squeaky clean, full of great customer service and an aura of New York in the good ole days, look no further. The Algonquin will get my business when I visit the City. I am a 59 year old Mom taking her daughter (28) to the City for the first time. The Algonquin was a great decision!
NYC stay - posted on 08/30/2006
We took a 3 week roadtrip. I had trouble finding what I thought would be a suitable hotel in the heart of things because I have never been to NYC. The reviews helped me. I booked the Algonquin primarily because of the reviews and it's location. I was really pleasantly surprised. The hotel is a small boutique hotel right in the theatre district close to everything. The staff was spectacular and made our stay wonderful. They have a small cabaret, a bar, small elegant restaurant all with intimate surroundings and friendly people. We loved it and will stay there when we go back... book it!!
Breakfast Alternative - posted on 08/26/2006
One of the things that hasn't been mentioned - right next door is the Red Flame Restaurant where you can get a very good normal priced breakfast. The pillows and beds were the most comfortable of any hotel I've ever visited.
Excellent Hotel! - posted on 08/22/2006
I have stayed at many hotels in New York and around the world. This hotel was really excellent! The location was great. Lots of history. Very comfortable feeling. Excellent service. Nice rooms (although small like most in Manhattan). I won't even check other places next time.
Perfect Location - posted on 08/17/2006
I went to NYC with my 18 yr old daughter. The Algonquin was the perfect location for us. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go or we took the subway. Our room had 2 single beds and a small bathroom. Room was small but extremely clean. Beds were comfy. Staff was nice and helpful. Everything was wonderful except for loud trash trucks in the middle of the night. This was not the hotel's fault and we didn't ask to be moved. It was a minor inconvenience in an otherwise great trip but I recommend that you request a room that is away from this if possible.
Highly Recommend Algonquin - posted on 08/07/2006
The Algonquin was a fantastic hotel, rich with history and ambiance. The service could not have been better (checked us in four hours early) and the suite was larger than I expected. Very comfortable beds, great lobby, friendly doormen and an adorable cat! Highly recommended!!
Landmark Hotel - posted on 07/25/2006
My stay at the Algonquin Hotel in NYC was a pure pleasure. I lived in NY for twenty years, and had not returned for a visit in many years. I remembered the Algonquin from brunches there, and hearing singers in their "Oak Room" cabaret. But beginning with the comfort and quiet of the lobby, the courtesy and friendliness of the staff, and the New Yorker cartoon wallpaper in the hallways, it was comfortable and homey. ..Not to mention Matilda, the house cat, who lives in the lobby, and is happy to have her picture taken with the guests.

So much better than home! The service is impecable and pleasant. The location is fabulous - a five minute walk from Broadway theaters. And for a truly civilized experience, have an afternoon drink in a comfy arm chair in the dark, atmospheric lobby.

Never having been to NY, we were shocked by the room size, but hear that it is common. If you can afford it, get a bigger room. The location was excellent! The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in (unless you like a really hard bed). Would stay here again no question.

A Perfect Visit to the Algonquin - posted on 06/22/2006
My wife and I always stay at The Algonquin in New York City, so we chose the Algonquin for our granddaughter's first visit to New York. Our suite was perfect, the staff was outstanding, especially the waitstaff in the Round Table Restaurant, and Matilda the cat was friendly (to our granddaughter). The restaurant food was excellent. A perfect visit

The hotel is nice, location is good, rooms are small, but that was expected. The front desk & bellman are very helpful. Beware of the cat, Matilda, in the lobby. We weren't real impressed with the bartender, but overall would recommend the hotel.

This was a wonderful hotel. Quiet, comfortable. One of the most comfortable beds I've slept in on vacation. It was a short walk to everywhere, Grand Central Station, TImes Square, and Rockefeller Center. Truely a great trip for us.

If you want history and a good deal - posted on 03/04/2006
Location is superb, close to Times Square and Grand Central. Staff is extra helpful. Our concierge answers all of our questions, books our tickets. We had friends coming to join us on a last minute decision, and our request to be placed on the same floor was granted. Our room is small but very comfortable, with a wonderful bay window facing Club Row. One of four nights, however, the heating or plumbing system rattled all night long. Our friends stay in a more spacious room with a window but no view. Complimentary bottled water in room is very nice.

For lovers of American Lterature and the Arts, the Algonguin Hotel, home of the Algonquin Roundtable is a not to be missed shrine. The over 200 year old hotel building has its own charms to be sure, but to dine in the Oak room and read the quotes placed on the table at which Harold Ross, Dorothy Parker Robert Benchley and so many other sat, laughed, ate and dished is a inspiring experience. For cat lovers there is the very beautiful and affectionate Matilda, so like the one who entertained the guests at the round table many years ago.
I loved it! - posted on 05/03/2005
I recently celebrated my birthday with a week's stay at the Alonquin. Although I found the rooms somewhat ordinary, though perfectly adequate, I LOVED the spirit of the Algonquin. We began each evening in the lobby with a glass of wine and fell in love with the charming staff. They were delightful folks who happily helped us with anything we asked from cooling champagne to saving carrot cake for later. I can't wait for my next big birthday!
