Too small! - posted on 05/17/2007
I was pleased with the location of the hotel (though finding it is impossible; there's no sign in front!) The room was clean, but very tiny. The bathroom was also very, very small, allowing only a stall shower that left water on the floor.

I felt that the room should be booked as a single not a double. It was very misleading. I also did not care for the concierges. They were quite rude, and not very helpful, but on a possitive note, I found the other employee's to be very helpful. The location was great with restaurant row right down the street.
Nice Hotel, Would Return - posted on 04/26/2007
We planned a weekend to see a few shows. The Paramount's location is perfect for theater and dining. We found the service at the hotel to be outstanding. We wanted for nothing. We have stayed in nicer rooms; however, the room we had was nice, but NY efficient. It was nicely decorated and clean, so we were satisfied. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel, and I cannot say enough about the helpful staff. The Concierge staff was outstanding.
Needed to upgrade - posted on 04/09/2007
My da. and I could not really fit into the standard room so upgraded for $80 to K and it was manageable. Not the best but if you are spending most of time doing things, it is good price wise.

Going in scared because of comments on here. Don't be! Sure rooms are small but it meets every need and its clean as a whole for an old hotel. Great staff/service. No better deal close to Times Square & I have stayed in 3 other places nearby for more $. Don't stay here if you expect big rooms and you get what you pay for in size/quality but for most this is a nice treasure.

I love this hotel - it is so NY. The funky decor more than makes up for the small rooms. If you're looking for comfort, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a very cool place in the middle of the action with an awesome lobby, stay at the Paramount. No prissy suburbanites allowed.

What a Nightmare!! - posted on 02/27/2007
The lobby was very noisey and dark. My mom and I about cryed when we saw our room! The floors had stains, a hole in the headboard, rusted tub and a rubber cork for the tub, a broken door knob on the bathroom, and a TV hutch that looked like it was pulled out of the dumpster. The room was very dirty, I went out and bought my own pillow and walked around in my shoes all night. You also had to climb over the bed to look out your window! I strongly suggest you find a diffrent hotel if you want a pleasant trip.

I love this hotel - yes, the rooms are very small, but you're in the heart of midtown Manhattan and why should room size matter. The lobby and lobby bar is great for people watching. I like firm mattresses so I think the beds are great. This hotel has boutique atsmophere. If you're an out of the box marriott kind of person, don't stay here. But if you appreciate the intimacy of a small hotel with a certain amount of quirkiness, this is a good option.

Who ever complains that the rooms are small have obviously never been to NYC! I have stayed at a 4 star down the street and payed twice the price! Not worth it! Yes, the rooms could be larger but otherwise no complaints. Decor was funky and cool. My friend and I took cool pics of eachother posing in the funky lobby. Friendly staff. The beds were great! Down pillows and comforters. The water in the bathroom was immediately hot and the room temp. was consistent. Awesome location and for the modest price you absolutely cannot beat it! I would definately stay again!!!

Great Location! - posted on 01/02/2007
After reading the reviews on here and also talking to one of my clients, i decided to book a reservation. When i arrived the first "standard" room i got was extremely small. So i upgraded. The second room was still small....but nice. The staff was GREAT and very helpful. Time Square was 1 block away....so you couldn't ask for a better location. I would definitely book another room here....but would upgrade from the 'standard' :)
Very nice! - posted on 12/30/2006
I was dreading our hotel...but when we got there I was impressed! It's no Waldorf, but the staff is extremely friendly from the minute you get there to the minute you leave. They even upgraded our room at no charge. The rooms are small, yes...but you're in New York City...you'll be out a majority of the time! Exellent location too. Will definitely be staying here again.
Don't Stay There - posted on 12/14/2006
The website makes the hotel look as if it is nice. IT IS NOT!!!! The hallways stunk and the rooms were very small. Luckily my companion and I are small people, otherwise we would not have fit into the bed (which felt like a cardboard box)

After reading both bad and good reviews, I stayed here in the 2-double bed room with my 2 adult children. I did not feel that the rooms were too small, and we were all quite comfortable. The rooms were clean, the staff was great. We slept well, and I would stay here again. When you read the reviews, REMEMBER: Some people just like to complain and will never be happy.

I felt like Gulliver and I am only 5'10". My son on the other hand may have felt right at home at 3'6". These rooms are tiny to say the least. There was no plug in the bathroom, no ironing board in the hotel, no internet hook up. I used my wireless and hooked on to someone next door for free. The carpets are filthy. Our linens were stained. For much of the stay our floor reeked of marijuana thanks to the guests next door. The paint was peeling and the rooms appeared to have been decorated in the 80s. One great thing the location. Definitely not a 3 star hotel, but a five star location.
Terrible experience - posted on 11/12/2006
Could not find the hotel because scaffolding covering the entrance. A/C did not work - woke up to room being 80 degrees. No doorman to hail cabs for guests, rooms were uncomfortably small and we were hit with an unreasonably high charge for adding another guest to our party. I will never stay at this hotel again.
Nice change - posted on 11/07/2006
The Paramount is a welcome change from "cookie cutter" hotels. Decor is funky and unique. Hotel restaurants & bars, services and facilities (business center & fitness center) are first rate. The only negative to the experience is the size of the rooms -- VERY small. Not a place for someone who is claustrophobic or plans to spend a lot of time in the room (but who would do that in NYC!!!!)

Horrible - posted on 10/15/2006
The rooms are very small, old looking, the carpet smelled old, the 11inch tv sat on a old piece of furniture. The Deluxe room contained a bed with a box spring and a mattress on the floor and the second bedroom was a couch with a pull out bed. The bathroom doors do not close completely and the entire stay was horrible. This hotel needs an entire renovation. There is no Parramount sign outside of the hotel, this is how bad the hotel is.

The hotel was perfect for our needs - close to the shows, transportation, food and site seeing. Was surprised at size of standard room -- but general accommodations, wait staff, food and bar were outstanding. Loved the decor of lobby and New York background music. We have already decided we will stay here again and have already recommended this hotel to friends and business acquaintances -- with stipulation to upgrade from the standard room.

Rooms are TINY - posted on 09/29/2006
Our room was 110 square feet, including bathroom! This is small, small, small! There was no room for suitcases without taking up all floor space (literally, ALL floor space!) and only one small shelf in the bathroom for toiletries (about 10"x8"). We had 2 grown women in this room, and after one day of shopping, our room was so crowded we were just walking on top of eachother and all our belongings! augh!!!! Thank heaven we decided it was rather comical and just made it work.

I was impressed that the management was able to grant my room request of 2 beds when other hotels in the area would not. The breakfast buffet was good as well as the bar. If you enjoy funky decor, you'll like this hotel. The bathroom fixtures were old, but clean.
Expensive and Modern: Paramount - posted on 09/06/2006
Paramount appeals to the high-class, modern individual with a large pocket book. With breakfast buffets starting at $24 during the week and offering no more than a X, it was NOT worth the money. This hotel did not even have complimentary toothpaste ($2/tube) if you forgot to pack it. Housekeeping knocked on the door even if you had a Do Not Disturb sign, the bathroom flooded daily, sink did not drain, and the room was tiny. Not to mention the staff is extremely hostile, even for New York City. I will never visit this hotel again.

Great location but SMALL room size makes your stay unbearable. The pictures of the room look good but the actual rooms seem like doll house room with little room to move around. Even the ungraded rooms are too small for two people. Also, the charge for internet service was very high.

The hotel location was amazing to be so close to everything...right across the street from the discount tickets, right around the corner from broadway, down the street from restaurant row. The rooms are small but well worth the location and the people working there are great and very friendly.
not so bad - posted on 08/06/2006
the standard room is TINY but manageable, the beds are very comfortable. Our only complaints were that our air conditioning was not so grand (room stayed at a constant 80 or above) and that our lock to our room was faulty and we had to go to the front desk at least once a day to have new keys made. The location and staff make up for any misgivings this hotel may have had.

Four college friends and I spent 4 nights at the Paramount to celebrate our 50th birthdays and thoroughly loved it. We had 2 adjoining superior rooms and found them perfect for what we paid, as we were hardly ever in our room anyway. It is a very interesting hotel with many unique furnishings and decor. The lobby was very cozy.
Great Location/Small Rooms - posted on 06/26/2006
location, location, location. This is the only reason to stay here. It is located right next to Times Square. The rooms are no larger than a small bedroom. The bathrooms are smaller than anything I have been in. I am 5'6" and slender and had to sit sideways on the toilet due to the wall being right in front of it. If you are spending time seeing a show or going about NYC, then it is a great place to stay. Staff is very friendly.
Not as bad as some would have you think... - posted on 05/13/2006
After making reservations we found some reviews that terrified us. On arrival, we realized the room was comfortable for the two of us and we really enjoyed our stay there. You don't spend a lot of time in your hotel room, so we adapted to the small size. We stayed in a superior room, and would recommend that. Also, we asked them to clear out the mini bar and filled it with drinks we bought on our own and that saved us some money while letting us enjoy snacks in our room. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Our room was 8x10 at the most. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. On our second day I tried opening the window to get some fresh air and the entire thing FELL out, luckily it was onto the bed. Could've been disastrous. Bathroom was teen tiny, and the tv didn't work.

The room was very, very, very small. On a good note however, the bed was very comfortable, the shower makes you want to live in it. The water was hot and GREAT. The staff was very accomodating. We walked out of the hotel and about 2 blocks from B. Smiths restaurant. We walked to the left and was smack dab in the middle of time square. For all of these pluses....we can forget how small the roon was. Thank you Paramount and your staff. We had a wonderful stay.

Could not believe the size of the rooms. Had to step on the bed to get to the bathroom, which resembled a public bathroom. Staff used to complaints on rooms, so were nice but unyielding. Would I stay here again- yes for under $100/night. But, with the beds on the floor and the inability to walk around the room, would not consider it if the location wasn't good.
You Get What You Pay For...Sometimes. - posted on 04/25/2006
Wow! Smallest room we ever saw. Now I understand why it was the only place in Manhattan under $* a night. The bathroom was half the size of the hotel room. My husband's feet hung off the end of the bed. You couldn't open the TV cabinet/wet bar without turning it away from the bed! The bed was lumpy & on a trundle frame close to the floor. Sheets were clean and crisp.

Other reviews point out that the rooms are small. This is very true, but unless you plan to spend time there (why would you, this is NYC) it does not matter. Location is very good, close to subway, close to theatres. Room/facilities clean and service is fine.

Since I had read several reviews of this hotel before my stay, I was not completely surprised by the very small rooms. However, I was not prepared for the poor condition of my room - the lock on the mini bar was broken, wallpaper was peeling and the hanging lamp was in need of repair. The carpet could also use a cleaning. Warning to those who bad knees - the beds are very low to the ground. The location was perfect if you are going to the theater. The staff was very friendly and the lobby and bar area very attractive.
