Standing at Lex and 50th, the original W is a great base for exploring both the shopping on 5th and Madison Avenues, Rockefeller Plaza and Times Square/Broadway Theatres. Proximity to the underground also means you can be in the heart of edgy SoHo in just a few minutes. The hotel itself has a great youthful vibe, and the lobby and public spaces have a modern up to date feel. The guest rooms are undergoing a gradual renovation which appears to be working its way down from the upper floors of the hotel, and if money is no object, the E-Wow suite at this hotel is stunning. This W is for you if you like a happening scene a step removed from the tourist Mecca at Times Square. If you want a genteel lobby and high tea, look elsewhere.

The Original "W" still has a hip stylish vibe - the lobby is great for people watching.

Standard rooms are small, even by New York standards.

This was a great experience from the initial call to request 2 double beds, vice one king until we checked out. My husband who never tips valets or doormen, actually felt it necessary. Room and bathroom, were very big by NY standards. Location was great. Definitely recommending to friends.

Without request upgraded us to a bigger room.

Street fair was in front of hotel upon arrival, made for confusion on check-in not hotels issue.

The Omni Berkshire Place Hotel is located in the prestigious Sutton Place area of New York City. Very close to Central Park, Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue shopping, the Omni Berkshire has a long and famous history in Manhattan. This classic east side hotel is close to world class shopping, as well as being close to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History. A slightly further trip will take you to Times Square, Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. The hotel now has a new restaurant, so there's no need to leave for a bite. However, there's a lot of really good food in the area, so be prepared to eat your fill. For those that work out, there's a full gym on the premises. There's also a special kids' program that includes a welcome package and childrens' menu, which is a nice treat for the little ones in your life. Plus, kids 12 and under stay free.

The Omni Berkshire Place has 396 rooms, including several suites. There is also an array of specialty suites with names like Emerson, Millay, Dickinson, Wordsworth, Thoreau and Browning. Or, go all out and get the 1000 Rodgers and Hammerstein suite. Real fitness buffs can get special Get Fit rooms with healthy snacks and an in-room treadmill. There are also accessible rooms for those who are handicapped.

The Omni Berkshire Place doesn't skimp on amenities. Each rooms has plush terry bathrobes, a fully stocked mini bar, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, two free newspapers per day and in-room safe. There's high-speed Internet access, a docking station for mp3 players, cable television, a speakerphone and alarm clock. Executive level suites or higher have a CD player. Each room also offers individual climate control. As stated previously, the Get Fit rooms have a treadmill. Some suites have terraces or spa whirlpool bathtubs. There is also a complimentary limo to the downtown Financial District.

This is a four-star hotel with a long history in New York City. It has a wide range of good reviews from travelers all over the world, and has a home-like, familiar appeal. Families will really like this hotel, especially since kids stay for free and are treated like special guests. Singles may also like it, and may enjoy the numerous neighborhood pubs. Business people will like the free Wall Street shuttle service and close distance to midtown businesses. The Omni Berkshire Place Hotel is a good all-around bet and a good deal for the cost.
