Ameritania sinks - posted on 04/16/2007

From a Radiator that didn't work to a room incredibly small, this hotal is a last try before getting a hotel room in Brooklyn. It was a bit dismal, and getting the desk people to apologize for telling us there WAS valet parking when there wasn't was a struggle.

GREAT LOCATION! - posted on 01/24/2007

The Ameritania is a small hotel located right above the Ed Sullivan Theatre. Several parking garages nearby. We stayed here in 2000 and the rooms were identically decorated, so some updating is needed. The room was spotless, the bed was a VERY comfortable platform bed with lots of pillows and the sheets were crisp and clean. The only problem we had lighting.Vey dark. But a great location and a great value for Times Square!

Great location - posted on 01/22/2007

A few blocks from Time Square, Rockafeller Center, Next to Dave Letterman Show, Close to Theater District, Locations was the best. Great hospitality. Rooms clean, bathrooms small, but in tip top shape. Most of NY Staten Island is smelly, so mildew smell in hotel was the least of our worries.

Stylish but poorly remodeled - posted on 01/20/2007

The location was great but I would've been upset it we would've paid more than $* per night for the room. The lobby was nice, the rooms and hallways were decorated very well but everything was shoddy. It looked like a very poorly done remodel with uneven floors, carpet coming up in the corners, and a really old TV on top of a modern cabinet. Benches in the hallway were ripped, everything looked dirty. It was small, but space enough since we were there to see NY, not the hotel.

Great Hotel! Especially for price! - posted on 01/19/2007

Surprisingly hip and stylish hotel for Midtown Manhattan. Directly connected to the Ed Sulllivan Theater. Comfortable room with great furniture. Will check this hotel first the next time I come to the city.

The location is terrific and the bed was wonderful. My room had a beyond tiny bathroom but I hope others are bigger. Even had a decent view out the window. Very nice staff.

The room was so small we had to turn back-to-back to pass each other. Much too much money compared to other hotels in the area.

Fantastic location - posted on 10/23/2006

Yes, they have some small rooms, but they were able to move us to a large room with a KING sized bed. Super quiet side of the hotel! Fantastic location. Walk to everything! You'll love Manhattan!

Book this hotel! - posted on 09/05/2006

This hotel was unbelievable. Greeted by a friendly bellman who carried our bags up to our room. The lobby was clean and the decor was modern. Room was perfect size. Queen bed, two chairs, a desk, armoire w/ TV. Wasn't a big room, but it was big enough. Bathroom was nice. One sink, shower/tub, toilet, big vanity. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Free coffee and cappacinno every morning and the bar/lounge was nice too. Staff kept rooms very clean. Best part of this hotel was by far the location. Hotel is in same building as David Letterman Studios.

Great Stay - posted on 07/20/2006

I had a great time in NYand in this hotel. The hotel need some updates, and the rooms are a little small. I think that is a very good deal for the price is close to the Time Square area and the metro stops. The employees are very polite. The room was very clean. The bar and the looby were great. The free cappuchino and expresso was good too. I will stay in this hotel again.

Don't stay there! - posted on 07/14/2006

Extremely old property that was not reburbished professionally! Cheap Goldstar window units did not cool. Took 2 days to get another room. Had to ask for a box fan to make it through. Heard complaints from many others. There are 5 other old blgds this company redid in NYC. Beware!!! Old and nasty is not the same as new with central air.

I cannot believe how terrible that hotel was. I travel everyweek and the airport courtyard puts the Ameritania to shame. I just think you need to re-think recommending that roach infested hovel

Somewhere between a dump and a dive - posted on 06/16/2006

The rooms are tiny and the upholstered chair and bedframe were filthy and torn. The room smelled. The AC didn't work and had to be replaced, which took 2 days. There are no refirgerators in the rooms and only one ice machine for 13 floors. I would not recommend this hotel to ANYBODY!

The small room encourages you to get out and see the city. I do not go to NY to stay in a hotel room. I'll stay there everytime.

tiniest room and bathroom - posted on 05/29/2006

The hotel room was so tiny that two of us could not pass each other without one going on the bed or in the corner and bathroom was so tiny that there was not any leg room in fornt of toilet. you had to sit sideway.

Not bad for price - posted on 05/10/2006

Most of the prior reviews are accurate. The location is great (but be prepared for the street noise), the rooms are tiny (but you're not there for the hotel), the halls are dark. I found that the staff ignored me unless I spoke first, and the bed linens were nothing more than sheets. There was a heavy smell of air freshener throughout the hotel, which I found pleasant at first, but on day three....The rooms were clean; no bugs, etc.; and I loved my bathroom. Good value for the price.

A Sweatbox - posted on 04/29/2006

Absolutely would not recommend this hotel, for the price, it was a tiny shoebox for a very steep price, you could barely move, literally. The TV was old and had poor reception and the airconditioner was old and squealed.

Clean but... - posted on 04/24/2006

The Ameritania Hotel was conveniently located only a couple of blocks from Time Square. Room was VERY small, but after all, it IS New York. Bathroom was clean as well as the room. The bed wasn't too comfortable. The subway map they give w/ the key was GREAT. Good room for the price.

Location is great!!! - posted on 08/18/2005

For an all inclusive budget tour, this hotel was the best value for the dollar. It is near MOMA, Letterman, Central Park, bus lines to Greenwich,SoHo, downtown are right in front on Broadway. My 16 year old daughter and I had a trip of a lifetime...Ameritania is clean, quiet and well appointed - service was very responsive to any queries.

Disappointing - posted on 05/30/2005

Smallest room I've ever seen. Dated decor. Tiny TV. Mini-bathroom with no fan. Unhelpful counter clerks. To top it off - the alarm went off at 6am (set by a previous guest, but not on the cleaning staff checklist). For the steep price, there are many better picks in NYC.

Honeymoon - posted on 04/18/2005

Rooms are clean and good size for NY. Service is good. Great location located next to the Letterman Show! A little problem when we got there (advise: Bring your reservation online with you!!) Local call is about 0.95 cent/minute.

Ameritania just OK - posted on 04/13/2005

The room was OK, clean, the staff friendly. Bathrooms need updated, the shower scalded me several times and the iron singed a skirt. I checked out early and no one asked why, I was just informed I would have to pay for it all - which was expected, but you would think there would be a customer service inquiry. Next door to David Letterman, same block as old Studio 54.

Its All About Location - posted on 03/24/2005

The room wasnt large, but in New York one should not expect much larger. The staff was very helpful although they didnt allow us an early check in (which after flying all night and arriving in NY eaarly would have been wonderful) The location was awesome, couldn't ask for more. I would reccomend this to anyone going for the city not the accomadations. Rooms were good.
