Customer Reviews for The Helmsley Park Lane

Class and Location = Great Stay! - posted on 03/20/2007

What a terrific location! We had the best of all worlds being so close to Subway, theatre, Central Park, tour buses, and more. Room comfortable with a few issues. Great responsive staff. Fast elevators. Refrigerator promised for room not there. Very cold until we figured out how to work the fan. Good Internet speed. Lots of thick towels and extras like robes, slippers and morning newspaper. Room price usually high but affordable in lower season.

horrible service - posted on 03/18/2007

Good news? Rooms were spacious with great views. Bad news? Housekeeping was atrocious. They made the bed, but did NOT clean the bathroom, change towels, replace dirty glasses, empty trash or vacuum. After two calls to manager on duty, they did empty the trash. I have never experienced such abysmal service at any hotel, much less a hotel priced at $300+ per night. I guess it would be a good place to stay for one night, so substandard service would not be an issue.

Finally - posted on 10/11/2006

I travel monthly to NYC and have been repeatedly disapointed with the hotels in Manhattan. Even though pricey, the service and accomodations never came close to what I would like. Finally I have found a hotel that meets my every possible expectation - and I am very particular. A lovely, classy place with outstanding employees.

Not aging gracefully - posted on 04/28/2006

Pros: free broadband internet (wired); good water pressure; pillows comfortable; LCD flat panel TV (although I couldn't get it to work); location right across from Central Park. Cons: room small, bed is very close to hallway (not separated by bathroom as with most hotel rooms) so noisy; rooms old and not updated in some time; incredibly slow check-in; bed was hard; few outlets (and most of those were occupied by lights or TV or whatever).

All was sweet with my park-view room except this was the second year in a row in which, despite talking to the IT service man each stay I have had, they were unable to activate my in-room internet

great location - posted on 12/30/2005

This was our third stay in this hotel and we for sure will return. The central location is key and there are numerous things to do close by. The renovation job was well done and the hotel is in good condition.

My experience... - posted on 10/15/2005

Group with four rooms, nine guests, and all agreed on: Pros: The Park Lane staff - wonderful; Public areas - beautiful; Central Park view - fantastic; Location ? perfect for dining and touring. Cons: Beds & Pillows were lumpy and smelly; Bathroom tub was stained and moldy; D?r ? dated and cheap; Lighting ? poor in general; even when missing bulbs were replaced. There are certainly better places to get the same Pros and upgrade the Cons.

We liked it - posted on 06/07/2005

The location on Central Park was great, particularly for the price. The elavators were quick (did't have to wait long) and the service was great. It was convenient to ride the subway on either 57th or Columbus Circle. Also, not far from Time Sq. or Rock. Ctr, but not nearly as busy as the Time Sq area. Not run down, but need to think about some room renovations. We're staying her agin this year.
