Don't stay here unless you have to - posted on 01/16/2007
I chose this hotel because of its location and price, but the fact is that I know I could have found something else exponentially better. The staff was self-involved, the room was the size of a shoebox with no closet to hang my clothes, and the location was not as convenient as I expected. It was 40 degrees outside and the heat was on so high in the room that I had to use the window unit to cool the room. It was so loud outside of my room, it felt like I was sleeping on the street. Don't stay here unless you have NO other option

Clean hotel at great location - posted on 12/02/2006
Rooms are small, but extremely clean (bathrooms too). Staff was very friendly. More suited for adults or couples rather than families due to size. Hotel is just a couple blocks from Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and the Theater District. Subway is right on the corner and hotel is next to a drug store in case you forget anything. Also next to a very nice bar/restaurant that is open late every night (2 am+). I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Small, wet and damp, the rooms are terrible. No vent in bath room. Dirty floors and stair way.

This is a great hotel very friendly people, rooms are small but close to everything. Expresso machine wasn't working so we had to go out for hot coffee. Great place to stay!!
perfect for a city adventure! - posted on 08/13/2006
I think people expect good service etc so they usually wont write a review if it is good.We had a great experience, the decorating was nice, comfey beds, staff at the front were great, I loved the latte machine in the coffee area. Our AC worked fine but the room always seemed a bit "moist." And the cleaning staff forgot things such as soap or washcloths. As far as other reviews of rude staff...I have to wonder if maybe the reviewers were rude or difficult themselves.
Nice Hotel, Small Rooms - posted on 08/11/2006
This was a very inexpensive but nice hotel. Its jin a great location. MY main problem was the room size, but it was a very well put together room. And also never gave us wash cloths when they cleaned the room. Bsides that I enjoyed my week stay there.

This boutique hotel is just off of times square and convenient to subway. Room was smallish but nicely appointed- and staff were very helpful and attentive.

2ND VISIT TO THIS HOTEL. CLEAN, NEAT AND CONVENIENT LOCATION. tHE ROOMS AR SMALL, BUT THATS OK. THE ROOM i GOT THISTIEM WAS ON THE FIRST FLOOR. NO CLOSET, THEY HAD A CABINET. HAD TO LEAVE THE DOORS OPEN TO HANG MY SUIT COATS AND PANTS. THE CABINET WAS IN A VERY DARK INCONVENIENT PLACE. mY LAST MORNING. SOMEONE STARTING VACUUMING AT 5;30 IN THE MORNING. i AM UP ANYWAY, BUT THOUGHT IT STRANGE. i WILL GO BACK, BUT ASK FOR AN UPGRADE.
Got what I paid for - posted on 07/28/2006
Located right in the heart of Broadway, the hotel was a good bargain. The room was small but not unexpected. You run into your bed when you first enter the room. The front desk service however was suboptimal. When I asked for 2 beds on registration, the woman dismissively read out from my download the words "standard room" and told me that meant 1 Queen size bed (!). On checking out, I asked for help to get a cab for the airport, was told rudely at the Front desk that I was on my own.

This hotel is perfect if you want to go out early and just come back to sleep. Close to everything. Comfty bed. Room too small. Hot elevator. Internet not working almost all time. Friendly staff.

The Amsterdam Court is a small hotel in the heart of the theater district with easy access to subway and tour buses. Modern, crispy clean decor. Rooms are very small but comfortable. No city view. Very clean and quiet. Baths have plenty of hot water and drain well. The public room is inviting with free coffee and cappocino 24 hours. The staff is most courteous and helpful. We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
Great Choice - posted on 07/10/2006
Excellent location. Great staff gave excellent help and recommendations for getting around the city. Our initial room didn't accomodate a roll-out bed. But on request, we were switched to one that would and was perfect.

Great location. Rooms are incredibly small but that's ok since you don't spend much time in your room anyway. Staff was very helpful.

We knew we were in trouble when the door swung open and hit the bed. had to walk sideways around bed. Were moved to larger room, but staff was not happy.
Disappointment - posted on 06/25/2006
I was very disappointed when my family and I arrived at the hotel and say the condition of the standard room. The room is very small and I had to turn sideways to get into the bath room; and no, I am not an oversize person. Service was very poor; there wasn't any washclothes in the bathroom and when contacted the service desk I was told that we had to wait until the a.m. shift came on duty at 8:00 a.m. This hotel needs a lot of improvement. I doubt if I would stay there again.
very small and hot - posted on 06/22/2006
We were booked to stay in a sister hotel to this one but it was overbooked and was moved to Amsterdam Inn. The rooms are tiny! I have stayed in several Manhattan hotels with smallish rooms, but this was by far the smallest. The air conditioner did not work well, the room was uncomfortably warm during the entire stay. It was a very noisy location. As far as location, if you want to be close to everything this is a good site. I would not stay here again.

This hotel was in such a great location. We were with in walking distance to everything. Subway is on same block. We arrived early and were able to check right in to our room. Staff was average, not overly friendly. Hotel design very nice and clean. Beds are very comfortable. Nice storage in our room.

The standard room that was assigned to me and my wife was not enough to accomodate our luggage. After my complains, we werw moved to a little larger room (at first towards the payment of an extra fee; later on they gave it for free.
Hot for the location, cool on the service - posted on 05/19/2006
My husband and I spent 4 days, 3 nights in NYC. We chose the Amsterdam based on location and price. We walked and took the subway each day and were thrilled with the great location (despite being next to a sketchy gentleman's club that had a bouncer that gave me the creeps). The rooms were small but neat, the A/C unit did not work, and the bathroom had no fan. That would have been forgivable, but the customer service was lacking and left a very poor impression. We can't wait to go back to NYC, but we will be staying elsewhere next time.
decent place for the money - posted on 05/11/2006
Room was small and dim. Not much room to move around or to leave suitcases out. No safe or free breakfast as advertised. Room was clean, beds comfy, shower hot. Served our needs, but not fancy. Good deal for the $$
perfect - posted on 05/03/2006
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 5 yr anniversary in NYC. This hotel is perfectly centered for all must see locations like broadway, time square, theathers, about a 30 second walk to the closest subway for a ride down to chinatown, little italy, and ground zero! This hotel is nice and quiet and perfect for a good night rest.

After reading prior reviews of this hotel, my Domestic Partner and I were skeptical. Thank goodness we tossed caution to the wind and took a chance. We were upgraded (free of charge) to a Deluxe King room with 4-bay window facing 50th (across from WICKED). We highly recommend this hotel, especially since the Trousdale Cocktail Lounge is in the lobby ~ love having martinis in Manhattan! This is a really swanky hotel right in the middle of Theatre District. To my understanding, water pressure is a problem for most high rise buildings of any considerable age; so don?t sweat it!
Great Hotel - posted on 04/18/2006
The hotel was located right in Times Square. Since it was our first trip, the location was perfect. We were right around the corner from the theaters, the tour buses, and the subways. The room was very comfortable, though a bit on the small side. The large beds were perfect after a long day of sightseeing. We4 would definitely stay here in the future. Highly recommend.
Hot Hotel - posted on 04/15/2006
The room was VERY small, which I suppose is to be expected in NYC. My real complaint is that there was no way to turn off or lower the heat. The room was uncomfortably hot most of the time, especially because the cooling system was ineffective.
Good Experience! - posted on 03/24/2006
Hotel much better than expected. Nicely decorated lobby and nice full bar. One customer complaint about small room, but that was not my experience. Room had a king size bed which may come with a larger size room, not smaller that a regular hotel room. Nicely decorated and clean, including bathroom. Location was excellent. Only half block from Broadway Blvd., very close to Times Square and subway system. A not so negative note: room faced the street and it could be a little noisy during morning rush hour. Carpet in the hallway showed some stain, but none on bedroom carpet.

Well located in the heart of the theater district. Friendly staff. Rooms are very small but comfortable. Bathrooms are nice, lots of hot water. No gym -- a $5 discount at a gym that isn't in the same building is not the same as having a gym in the hotel.
champagne Cocktails! - posted on 01/10/2006
I stayed here last April and found the hotel to be of a good standard. Rooms were very clean if a little on the small side, but all we really did was sleep in it!. The hotel bar is really cool, with friendly staff and great cocktails, perfect after a day walking the streets.Good value for money.
Clean and Modern Hotel - posted on 01/02/2006
I stayed at this hotel for a night while in New York to see a show. The hotel is very close to Time Square and the theatre district, which was very convenient for my visit. The rooms were beautiful, the bathrooms were very clean. The only thing was that I booked a room with 2 double beds (and it so said on the book confirmation), but they did not have any when I checked in. Also they had problems with the shower in the morning (ie cold water), but was able to fix it within about half an hour.
good choice - posted on 12/26/2005
the location is good (a few 100 meters to times square and between 2 subway lines). but the rooms are of different quality, mine was without sight and always overheated because of some not isolated heating-pipes. so if possible just ask for a good room!
Great Time! - posted on 10/28/2005
My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. The location is great and the room is perfect for sleeping. Besides who goes to NY to stay in the room? For the money, you can't beat it.
Great Location!! - posted on 10/26/2005
We stayed here over the Memorial Day holiday and it was wonderful!!! Location is great, close to all attractions and only a short walk to the subway. A very safe area that you can come and go at all hours. We had a wonderful time and are planning another trip to NYC this May and definately plan to stay at the Amsterdam. For the price, it was amazing, the rooms were small but when in NYC who wants to stay in the room. It was comfortable, clean and location, location, location!!! Loved it!!!!

Nice little hotel. Clean, attractive, wonderful location, good price (given NYC prices), friendly staff. No room service or other frills. Ask for a room overlooking the street.
Try staying in Central Park - posted on 08/26/2005
I didn't expect much for $ and it fell short of my expectations. Very small rooms, inattentive/uncaring staff, no services. Stay here if you are broke, don't care if there is a lot of noise or small spaces don't bother you. Too bad. It has a great location and lots of potential.
I expected much better - posted on 07/19/2005
I have stayed in N.Y. many times so I expected small, but I expected to be able to move from bed to bath w/o tripping. Elevators out of service. Horrible excuse for what is billed as 24 hr. coffee service and the employees don't care. Cool decor in lobby and bar but it doesn't make up for the problems in the room. I would NOT stay here again.
great value - posted on 06/07/2005
Nice little hotel and for the price in this neighborhood it can't be beat. If small rooms bother you ask for the king delux. We stayed 6 days and had no complaints. If you are in NY for theater it is perfect.
good experience - posted on 05/02/2005
we stayed for 2 nights - right around the corner from Times Square and theaters. Safe neighborhood - lots of people around day and night. Small rooms (who cares), clean. Park across street for $20/day. would go back.
Don't stay here! - posted on 04/26/2005
I probably could have endured the tiny room (literally 8' x8') and the lack of amenities. But at night, you can hear EVERYTHING. I did not sleep at all. Obviously, the building was not intended to be a hotel. It was so bad, that I switched hotels after one night, even though I prepaid for two nights. If you stay here, wear ear plugs to bed. it's the only way you will be able to sleep.
The Tiny Room and flooding shower!!! - posted on 04/22/2005
Me and my sister stayed at the hotel for a few days the plubming was very bad the water would not go down the drain which caused the shower to flood it was awful! I called the front desk and let them know about the problem and they promised to send someone but no one every showed up to fix the problem. The room was super small. The view was awful only a brick wall, and the elevators were super slow. For the price I would have expected better. The best thing in the room is the comfortable bed. The location is great less then a minute from times square.

Rooms were very small but clean. Desk staff was helpful. View of air shaft and dead bird not that great. Thumping base from coffee lounge below was a bit annoying but did not keep us from falling asleep. Overall a good value for NYC.
