Rooms are luxurous, large (for NY), well decorated. Nice and quiet. Great staff. Eye poping lobby. A great deal.

My experience... - posted on 01/08/2006

All i can say is that this hotel is no where near a four star hotel. THis is a mediocore 3star hotel at best. The service was horrible, the rooms werent very clean; the rooms smelled like mold, and the shower curtain had mold growing on it. They ended up giving us a room at 6:00pm instead of the listed 3:00pm time. Also, we ended up switching our room three times b/c the first two weren't cleaned from previous visitors.

I stayed over for thanksgiving with my parents, Im 25 id been to New York they wanted to go for the 1st time. I chose this hotel, a little hesitant due to other reviews, but big room (2 double beds), bathroom well spaced by ny standards, and best of all location..getting everywhere is so easy from there, so id be back again there.

Excellent Choice for a Stay - posted on 03/22/2006

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Grand Hyatt. My only negative comment is the lack of availability of food after 11:00 PM. We returned from a show, thinking that we would be able to find a late dinner but to no avail aside from the always-overpriced-at-any-hotel room service. The location, service, cleanliness, and over-all value makes this a great choice.

cozy and clean - posted on 10/02/2005

Great location, very central to everything touristy. Great beds, terrific sheets, and clean. It is a bit smaller than most of the Hyatts and the bathroom is tiny. We were on the 26th floor so did not hear any noise or traffic. One block away from Beard Papa's cream puffs on 41st street! Yummy! Felt safe, secure and easy location.

Great location connected to Grand Central terminal. Easy point to reach all areas of Manhattan especially if using the subway. Tiny bathrooms was only downside.

The hotel is pleasant. The lobby is nice. It is right next to grand central station which connects you to any subway line. Rooms are just fine but nothing special.

Great location and good value for the $$. Can be a bit loud, as you are right above grand central, request a room on a high level and you should be fine.

Great time - posted on 05/11/2005

We had a great time at the Hyatt. The rooms were wonderful! My only complaint was that the room was too hot and when we phoned the front desk to tell them, they said twice that they would send someone up. No one EVER came to the room. We ended up opening the window, but the traffic noise was a bit loud at times.

Stayed for 4 days, hotel was great! Connected to Grand Central Station which made for easy access to train. Bed was fab! Bathroom a bit small, but how long are you really in the bathroom? Could use vents. Rooms were clean and lots of towels. Hallway a little dark. Great price and close to Empire State and Times Square! Recommend this hotel to all!

Nice Hotel - posted on 01/12/2007

I took a trip to NYC for my birthday and it was just me. I wanted a place where I would feel safe at night but was affordable and centrally located and the Grand Hyatt delivered. When I checked in, the lady at the front desk noticed that it was my birthday and upgraded me to a slightly larger room and had some snacks sent up to me. Hallways seemed a little old and really just needed a little touchup, otherwise, the hotel was nice and comfortable.

Great Stay In New York City - posted on 01/01/2007

I was a little scared after reading some of the reviews. We were pleasantly suprised the room was nice and very clean. The bathroom is small, but so are most hotels. We loved the location because we could walk to most locations and loved being next to Grand Central Station. Planning to go back to New York and will stay at the Grand Hyatt again.

Excellent!!! - posted on 12/27/2006

We researched all types of hotels and settled with the Grand Hyatt because the only negative thing we consistently found was poor lighting and small bathrooms. Our thoughts were...so what?! Frankly, once you turned all the lights on, it was fine. The bathroom was small but unless you're planning on having a party in there, get your shower and get to Grand Central Station! Check in took less than 30 seconds. Check out was just as fast. Excellent wireless internet in the room! Always had hot water. Concierge was awesome! Staff was excellent. Rooms were immaculate. We'll do it again!

First time traveller to NYC and I couldn't have been happier with the hotel - the room included breakfast bar (don't lose your vouchers - they charge $21 for a continental otherwise) and the rooms were much more spacious than what I expected

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt NY for just one night. We traveled there to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The staff was exceptional, location was great, room was great, and the hotel was well appointed. Without a doubt we would stay there again. Maybe for New Years Eve? Hmmmmm......

I was taking my teenage daughter to New York for the first time. I had read many reviews prior to picking this hotel. The experience was great! Wonderful location. The staff was very polite and the room was very clean. Bathrooms are a bit small, but that didn't really matter. We ate several meals downstairs in Grand Central. We were able to walk to Times Square, Central Park etc. Will definitely go back to this hotel.

Not so great! - posted on 10/25/2006

Check in service was good. Temperature control in room unacceptable. Bedding not up to quality of other similar chains. No bath tub - tiny rooms and baths. Had to wait in line for 45 minutes to store luggage upon departure of hotel, while management watched and did nothing.

Lovely hotel - posted on 10/18/2006

This hotel met my expectations. The rooms were quite large. Anyone who knows NY has seen rooms at hotels to be small. The bar area was wonderful with couches to lounge at besides the large bar area. We loved it, the hotel staff was eager to help and the concierge knew every square block of the city. I will come back again.

Grand location, fast elevators - posted on 08/02/2006

We didn't get the 2 double beds as requested, but got a king and a roll away and the chair folded out into a narrow bed. Kids were fine, but an adult would not have fit. Bathroom could have used a fan. Husband was impressed with meeting facility, good food. Elevators swift. Funky sound when you turned on shower, like a muffled chainsaw. Our room faced Chrysler building and was dark, room overall was dimly lit as was lobby. In-room toiletries were nice.

Great Location in Manhattan - posted on 07/04/2006

This hotel adjacent to Grand Central Station in midtown Manhattan affords excellent access to Times Square, Madison Avenue, the Subway, and shopping. We were nicely surprised with the convenience of the Grand Central Food market and Food Court that provided a dozen options for sandwiches, burgers, salads, pizzas, drinks etc accessible to the hotel thru an individual entry to Grand central Station.

Weekend in NYC - posted on 06/02/2006

The only complaint that we had with this hotel was that on the morning of departure, the maid woke us at 8:10 am, and came back every 45 minutes until we departed the room. Check-out is not until noon, and our flight did not leave until 8:30 pm, so we were taking our time getting ready and packing before setting out to sight-see. We found this intrusion rude, and asked the maid to come back after 11:30. We finally checked out at 11:00 under much stress.

Sleeping through a Fire Alarm - posted on 05/20/2006

Grand Hyatt was a great hotel for an affordable stay in NYC. Rooms are clean and large, maid service was timely. One bell hop was very helpful, while another was quite rude. We were able to store our luggage before our room was available. Good location-nice hotel. The fire alarm went off at 5am and a malfunction caused it stay on and off for about 2 hours. The staff worked to fix it and were apologetic, but it did not help the fact that most people lost a few hours of sleep due to the loud alarm.

Spring Break Trip - posted on 04/27/2006

My daughter, husband, and I spent 6 nights here. We had a wonderful time. The beds were comfortable and the convenience to Grand Central Station made this trip for us. The lack of face towels in the bathroom was our only problem. We called housekeeping and promptly received them for the night but they were not included in the next day's housekeeping. Otherwise, it was great!

Lousy Service - posted on 04/06/2006

Traveled with 3 adults, needed 2 beds. Reservation said "1 King or 2 Doubles". Turns out this means they will give you what they want. In my case, I got 1 King and a roll-away bed fit only for a child. Even that took 9.5 hours and 7 trips to the front desk to get. Each time I was promised 10 minutes, but an hour later I would go back to the desk again. If you are traveling with more than 2 people, stay somewhere else or sleep in shifts.

This is a good, clean, comfortable hotel situated right above Grand Central Station, on 42nd and relatively near 5th. Service was reasonable. Missing are some of the extras you'd normally expect. No coffee or breakfast is included. Local phone calls (and 1-800 numbers) cost over a dollar, more if they go over 20 minutes, Internet available to T-Mobile Hotspot subscribers only, etc. It's a little spartan for the price. You're within walking distance of the Empire State Building, the UN, Central Park, and Time Square. The food court in Grand Central Station is excellent and recommended.

Close to 5th Avenue, Empire State Building and Theatre District. Grand Central station right next door. Room was fairly large and very quiet on the 23rd floor. No view from window, but king size bed was extremely comfortable. Modern, but not luxurious furnishings. Could have used a coffee pot in the room. Staff was efficient and lobby very attractive. Overall, a very good experience.

Nice Hotel - posted on 07/12/2005

The Grand Hyatt has a great location, easy to get around the city. The bathroom is quite small, primarily the vanity area around the sink, which is tiny. The very small shelves above the sink were not large enough for a family of four to share! The beds were VERY comfortable, and the room was quiet. We requested more towels and hangers, and they were delivered within 15 minutes of our request. Also, we discovered a problem with the shower, and it was repaired right away. The hotel is quite large, and somewhat impersonal, but overall is a good place to stay.
