You might be surprised to find Albany to be the state’s capital. With a massive city like New York City it’s not hard to overlook what else this impressive place has to offer. Although NYC is an absolutely wonderful place to visit there are many the other areas definitely worth your while.

Museum enthusiasts will love visiting the hundreds of different museums found throughout the state. Some of the finest paintings and sculptures in North America can be found here. The more unique museums include the International Museum of Photography, the Rockwell Museum, the Strong Museum and the Rochester Museum. Even though you may prefer one artist to another, there is a fantastic array of styles and eras for you to explore. Perhaps you need a bit more activity on your vacation. Racecar fans know Watkins Glen International as a great place to watch a NASCAR race. Darien Lake, a Six Flags amusement park, is jammed with fantastic rides to make you scream for joy. For those who enjoy staying dry you’ll want to try out the Viper, which gives you an impressive 75-foot drop. Feel the need to cool off? The Big Kahuna is the best ride to get drenched.

Adirondack State Park is not only the largest park in New York but also one of the largest in the nation. The state of New York has worked hard to protect the forests and wildlife that thrive here. The end result provides you with a fantastic look into nature and a break from the skyscrapers and busy streets New York is known for. There are thousands of lakes and hundreds of miles of rivers just waiting to be explored by you. New York State can have some pretty intense winters but as long as you dress appropriately you’ll be able to enjoy many wonderful outdoor activities. Niagara Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, is only a short drive away from Buffalo and is an amazing site to see. Need a bit more water? The coasts of New York State are ideal for fishing, boating, sailing and swimming. Keep your eyes open for the lighthouses and fish and chip shops. End a wonderful day with a glass of the local wine. It will be one of the finest you’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Speaking of food, the dining options in this state are absolutely unlimited and you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect place to satisfy your cravings.

It would be impossible to write about the state of New York and not mention New York City. The museums, shopping, nightlife, Broadway musicals and sheer number of restaurants are all great reasons to come. Spend your time in the big city or tour the other areas. Wherever you decide, you’ll find this to be a fantastic state to explore.
