Great Value - posted on 03/30/2007
The Kachina Lodge proved to be a good choice for my 2 day stay. Everything was quite adequate and the staff was very accomodating. The hotel is older and could be upgraded a bit though this would undoubtedly increase the price too. I initially had a room in the rear block of rooms which had a heating problem making the rooms unbearably warm. The front desk promptly moved me to another section where the heat was working properly. Room price includes a full breakfast buffet. Overall a very good deal.
Definitely Not Three Stars! - posted on 03/16/2007
There is no way this hotel deserves 3 stars; maybe 2 at a stretch. We couldn't walk barefoot on the carpet because it was so dingy, and the linen were so old, they felt like cheese cloths. Once the overwhelming deodorizer smell wore off, the mildew smell took over. There was only enough hot water for one person every 30 minutes. The ice machine near us was barely working, so we had to trek to the other two machines when we needed ice. The cleaning and waitstaff were extremely hard working and we felt bad that they had to work with such a decrepit facility.

Good Place to Stay - posted on 11/01/2006
The hotel itself was great. The room was spacious and clean. However, the "free" breakfast was a cold buffet and seating was in a very dirty restaurant. We would definitely stay there again but skip the breakfast.
one night, not more - posted on 10/24/2006
We were passing through so a stay at this motor lodge was fine but I would not stay if I was on holiday in Taos. We went to the hotel to sleep and left as soon as we got up.

Short walk to plaza and Bent street shopping. Room walls so thin could hear every word spoke, TV,etc next door. Luckly neigbors went to sleep eary. Free breakfast left lots to be desired.

Love it! - posted on 01/23/2006
I love this hotel. It is located close to the center of Taos so everything is within walking distance. I do think it could be updated and is a bit overpriced. They also did not have all the nights available that we wanted to stay.
Good dance - posted on 09/18/2005
Indian dance show (free but donation is suggested) was good. The cleark was good but the hotel needs more number of clerks.
disappointed - posted on 07/25/2005
I'd stayed there a number of times since I was a kid. Decided to splurge and take my kids there several days ago. Couldn't call out on the room phone, card keys didn't work all the time, electricity went out. Desk clerk couldn't crack a smile, seemed to think of guests as an annoyance, and was surly and sarcastic when approached about problems with keys.

Just returned from a lovely visit to Taos, NM. We got a great rate and were pleased to hear about the complimentary cocktail/appetizers and breakfast. The room however was NOT clean, sheets had stains, my clothes smelled like mildrew when I unpacked and the walls were paper thin. We could have carried on a conversation with our neighbors. Facilities definitely need a good cleaning and updating. Will not stay here again. Ick.
Disappointed - posted on 04/26/2005
This facility needs a good cleaning and much maintenance, and should be updated. Peeling paint and mildew were everywhere. The non-smoking room smelled like perfume was covering up the smoke. Ice was in a separate building. Shower was tiny. Advertised refrigerator didn't exist.
Needs an upgrade - posted on 02/11/2005
Older facility; more modern and newer lodging is available for the price.
It could have been nice but... - posted on 01/15/2005
The desk clerk never acknowledged us while he carried on a conversation with a contractor doing work there. Maybe some customer service skills are needed. The room decor was bordering on being nice. The mattress had a slope in the middle of it. The room is heated with I think a water pipe heater that sounds like banging pipes. The noise goes off about 4-5 times during the night and is so loud it woke me up each time. I thought someone had hit my car the first time I heard it and awoke with a fright.
A True Best Buy - posted on 12/28/2004
We were priced out of the Ski Valley this Christmas and took a chance on the Kachina Lodge. What a find! The rooms were just renovated in Mission style. They had free, wireless internet and a free, hot breakfast every morning. The staff was friendly and courteous, and the shuttle bus to the slopes cost only fifty cents. Would definitely return.
