Taos is surrounded by natural beauty and a long history. The Taos Pueblo is a definite must for anyone visiting in the area. This cultural landmark is actually a small village whose buildings have been inhabited for over 1000 years. That makes it one of the oldest communities in the nation. Walking around is the best way to get a first hand look at the architecture plus it gives you plenty of chances to keep your eyes open for the local art. Handmade jewelry, moccasins and drums are only a few of the treasures youll be able to take back home. In fact, youll find great museums and art galleries located throughout the town.
One of Taos natural landmarks is the impressive Rio Grande Gorge. At its deepest, it reaches 800 feet. Cross over on the popular Gorge Bridge and enjoy the view looking around... and down.
Skiing in New Mexico is a fantastic experience. The Taos Ski Valley is a well known ski destination because of the amount of snow it receives and that there very few crowds here. As a side note, boarders will need to look elsewhere because this mountain is for skiers only.
No city is complete without a little mystery. Both tourists and locals claim they can hear a low hum while in the city. One side claims theres a secret government research lab under the ground and the other side states its a natural phenomenon. When you visit you can decide what you believe.
