Uncovered the mystery of the bird noise that one reviewer complained about. It's a recording of hawks to keep pigeons away! I could not hear it when in my room with the door closed, but I would reccomend the hotel turn it off at night. It was a great breakfast, especially considering it is free, and the menu changes daily. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Some minor maintenance problems [loose shower curtain screws] but the best value I've had in a long time.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Vagabond. The staff was very friendly and the location of the hotel was very convenient. The free breakfast was good and the high speed internet was a plus for us. The hotel doesn't provide conditioner (which we needed) and the maid staff forgot to give us soap (easily remedied with a phone call). Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the Vagabond and would choose them again.

this hotel is undergoing ownership change and these rooms are in need of a major overhaul...starting with the beds! man, straw would be more comfortable. the smoke alarms also went off each time i showered...no one showed up or called to see if everything was okay. then the woman who checked me out-it seemed i was bothering her in having her do her job. i hope that the hotel reads this, as it could be a wonderful place-but it is got some distance to go.

We were unable to use the internet connection in the room because it was broken. No elevator access to second floor rooms. Buffet breakfast was very good.

I was pleasantly surprised, the room was clean, people were very helpful and friendly, always checked to make sure we had enough towels, nice pool and hot tub, the bar had good food and the bartendar was extremely nice to us. I would stay there again on my return trip to Albuquerque, great value for the price.

Bird noises in the courtyard were pretty disturbing- they continued all night long, too. The room was clean and in good order. The location is great- close to zoo and aquarium and in a safe part of town. The beds are large and comfy.

Though not seen from every hotel room, this hotel sits in an excellent location to see the river basin, rocky mountains, and sandia mountains. It is also very close to the airport, UNM, the lobo's stadium, and restaurants. The breakfast buffet was much better than most hotels' continental breakfast and the rooms were comfortable. Great for a personal stay, but lacks wireless internet. There is also a shuttle service to/from the airport and anywhere within 3 miles from the hotel- so we didn't even have to rent a car. I'll definitely stay there again when I return!
Overall nice stay. - posted on 09/03/2006
While overall a nice stay, there is room for improvement. stained carpets. no tv channel guide, only one ashtray in room, very slow tub drain. The pool and hot tub were very nice. Towels provided in pool area.

Clean, conveniently located, quiet, great breakfast, good amenities, friendly staff!! Would go back again!

Arrived and found dried toothpaste in the sink and on the faucet. Hallway corriders had crumpled up carpet. A/C was noisy. Bedding very worn. Mattress pad was loose and way too small for the king size bed. Not even attached. Would not stay here again.

Convenient, great pool, buffet, setting--Stayed twice--2nd time they'd lost reservation but finally resolved--good value in all

This motel was great. Free DSL (with cord provided, although it's a little short), a great breakfast buffet, and a private balcony that if you get a rear-facing one gives you a great view. The mattress was thin and hard, but that's about my only complaint.

Very clean, awesome staff, great location, excellent food, the fax service and DSL are a nice feature also. Overall, it was an outstanding 8 days there.

While this was not the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in it was clean and comfortable and well worth the price.

IT WAS A VERY NICE AND CLEAN HOTEL, AND IT WAS NEAR WHERE WE HAD TO BE ON THAT DAY.
If you have to... - posted on 04/23/2006
We booked here thinking it was the only option close to the airport but when we arrived, we found several other nicer hotels that were actually closer and probably didn't cost much more! It's an older property and wasn't entirely clean. Even for just 1 night, we wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel is well located, close to airport, UNM, Isotopes Park. Very good full buffet breakfast; good food in restaurant at reasonable prices; friendly, helpful staff; good bar but smokey; only downside is it is old. Had problems with internet connection that took days to fix.

Very Satisfying Stay - posted on 04/11/2006
Although there were minor nagging details (electronic key didn't always work, TV remote needed replacement, etc.) overall a GREAT place to stay. Clean, comfortable, spacious, even aesthetic. An overall excellent attitude. View of the city lights and complimentary breakfast a big plus. Excellent value. I highly commend and I put them number one for a return stay.
Low Price/Bad Smell - posted on 03/28/2006
If you are unaccustomed to heavy cigarette odor your stay here will be unpleasant as all of the common areas have a heavy cigarette odor reminiscent of old Las Vegas casinos. The Hotel Staff was not in the least helpful when we tried to recover a clothing item left in the hotel room after we checked out, they refused to return our calls and we got the run around every time we called the hotel staff. If you can put up with smoke and bad service for the low price you might not be as disappointed as we were.

very happily surprised. Great value for the money. 5 minutes from airport, 10 minutes from old towne. Friedndly staff, large clean room, great buffet breakfast included. No complaints!
It's just OK - posted on 03/14/2006
Overall the hotel was fine. The Hotel staff was very friendly. The walls were paper thin in the room and the lights streamed under the door. The bedspread had holes and stains. The room smelled very musty, like it hadn?t been opened up in quite some time. Could use room darkening curtains!!!

Good place and great location for my needs. Room needed a TV guide or listing of channels. Good breakfast.
Overall Great Stay! - posted on 01/27/2006
This was a very good experience overall. The price was very good and the location was excellent for our needs. A bit more attention could be paid to small details--no TV guide of any kind in the room--also, tips for waitress during breakfast included on your final bill--a little sneaky there. Great visit, though.
Very nice hotel; close to the airport - posted on 01/24/2006
Very nice hotel, friendly staff, good price. There may have been public facilities and entertainment but my husband and I were there only one evening as we were flying early the morning after. The rooms were very nice (2 queen beds), quiet and clean. Would go back again.
Best Rate--Good Hotel - posted on 01/03/2006
Wow. My son and I were impressed with the staff, the comfortable queen beds in the rooms, the privacy of the bathrooms from the main room, and MOST especially the wonderful breakfast buffet. Each morning, we were treated to a complimentary full, warm breakfast buffet including hash browns, eggs, bacon and sausage, fresh fruit, yogurt, pancakes/french toast and a full variety of juices along with coffees milk and cold cereal. We will definitely stay again very soon!

The hotel is adequate, but the promo material makes the hotel seem nicer. Room Service only went until 9:00.
many free services - posted on 12/06/2005
I booked with this hotel because of the price and free shuttle from the airport since I didn't want to rent a car but had to meet friends at the airport over 2 days. I didn't expect to also get great friendly service, good sleep and a well-rounded breakfast of fruit, yogart, cereal, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes and hot/cold beverages. Lastly, I expected to wait 15-20 minutes for the shuttle, but if you arrive after 10PM, you're asked to take a taxi which the hotel reimburses. This hotel was a great deal overall!
What Modem?? - posted on 12/04/2005
The room had the modem box upon check-in, unfortunately didn't try to connect until late at night only to find out it was set up in an area of the room where there was NO telephone connection. Plus the power cord for the modem was missing. Could use room darkening curtains!!!
Not bad! - posted on 11/29/2005
It was with some trepidation that I booked this hotel, only because I had formerly lived in Albuquerque and wasn't sure about the immediate area surrounding the University area. We were all quite pleasantly surprised. Reading the previous reviews helped me "seal the deal"-especially the remarks about the breakfast buffet. The buffet was pretty good. Food is often a big expense, so with 3 teenagers and 2 adults it helped to manage our budget to eat there.

Breakfast - posted on 11/28/2005
The breakfast was prepared in a kitchen by a chef, and was very delicious. A definite surprise in this price range. Hotel is aging.
Disappointing - posted on 11/14/2005
Food on the floor in the room when we arrived - a couple old grapes & crackers between the beds...safety catch on door broken and only partially screwed into door by a poor repair. Sheer curtain at window came loose when gently closed. Rug stained. Pool often out of towels. Not a 3 star place. Understaffed employees were friendly (thanks for recommending El Patio restaurant).
This has got to be the worst experience - posted on 11/14/2005
This hotel is lousy and needs MAJOR improvement...The rooms smell as if they've never been disinfected...and the bedding is absoulutely horrible....i would never recommend or stay at this place again

Thank you for the complimentary breakfast, I will look to stay with you again when I am back in the area!

Older Hotel with noisy air conditioning. - posted on 08/19/2005
Our stay could have been better if the air conditioning had been working in our room. The room was too hot and the beds were not that comfortable. It is an older hotel that seems to need an update on its air conditioning. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet and it would be convenient for travelers taking a flight to and from Albuquerque since it is just down the street from the airport. I did not sleep well on the mattress and the room was hot.
Nice Hotel - posted on 08/18/2005
The hot complementary breakfast was excellent, good location for sights and airport, very helpful people. Room was average with very few TV channels and their internet service is too costly. But, our stay was enjoyable & we will be back.
Quiet & Comfortable - posted on 08/10/2005
This location features large rooms which are well maintained. Housekeeping does an excellent job. Morning buffet breakfast is very good. Swimming pool is too small for the large number of guests the hotel can accommodate. Lap swimming possible if pool is not too crowded. Lounge is comfortable, generally quiet and has very good happy hour prices.

Very comfortable and quiet rooms. A full breakfast buffet is included in the room price. Small and quiet lounge on premises with very good 'happy hour' specials. Courteous staff. Limited lap swimming possible if pool is not too crowded. Easy access to major interstates, I-25 and I-40.

This was our second stay at the Airport University Inn. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet is really tasty. This inn is a good value for travelers who aren't looking for absolute luxury. You're basic needs will be met and then some.
