They checked us out when I didn't??? - posted on 03/11/2007
This is the lowest you can get in terms of service. I checked in early, which was nice granted, but then when I left the room and came back they had checked me out of my room. They did give me another room and I did not leave any of my belongings. But that was really annoying. After paying for parking they told me parking was not payed for later when I tried to get another validation. I think the clerk pocketed the cash I paid. Poorly managed and unfriendly service. Suggest you go somewhere else. There are many other choices in the area with comperable rates.
Great Hotel - posted on 03/05/2007
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Everything was what we expected. They have a great team! Great location and great access to NY City. We would definetely consider this hotel on our next visit.
Parking Scam - posted on 03/05/2007
$15 overnight charge, also a significant hourly charge unless you want to move your car every 30 minutes. Together parking charges far exceeded price difference between this hotel and competition. Rooms were good, but I won't stay here again. You can park about a block away on a not-very-safe looking street (I did) but watch out for all the tow-away zones.
Rooms stink - posted on 01/15/2007
Shuttle bus supposed to be frequent. We gave up after 45min and caught a cab. Rooms stunk of cigarette smoke. We suspect husband got food poisoning in hotel restaurant. As for saving money by commuting to New york city via Amtrak - $57US return for 2 adults! What are you really saving. If price is all that matters stay at this hotel.

The only thing is that the bed was a little too hard for my taste. . .
Nice hotel - posted on 12/02/2006
The hotel is nice. But one thing about the parking is problem with cost for parking. I have never seen that kind access to the parking with hotel before.
Good Trip With a Few Minor Suggestions - posted on 11/29/2006
The availability of the shuttle bus could have been better. Some of the drivers were pleasant -not all. The restaurant have good food but seemed under staffed. Although it was open late, there was no bar and no liquor served. My son wanted a beer and would have enjoyed a bar or at least access to a beer at the end of our day in the city. The maid service was very good but started a little early. Two days in a row they started to come into our rooms while we were still in bed around eight o'clock.
pay to park as a guest - posted on 10/24/2006
You have to pay $15 to park in the hotel parking lot, even as a guest. Room smelled like chemicals from recent cleaning. It was difficult to breathe so had to open a window and is was 40 F outside. The hotel is difficult to find off the NJ Turnpike. NO WAY A GUEST SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO PARK AT THE HOTEL THEY ARE STAYING AT!
Excellent value - posted on 10/04/2006
Big clean rooms with lots of space. Airport shuttle every 20 minutes 24 hours/day gives easy access to train and plane. We caught the train to New York each day and saved $1000 in accommodation over the cost of staying in NY.

GREAT HOTEL. GREAT LOCATION. BEAUTIFUL ROOM. MARRIOT QUALITY AND CLEANLINESS. I'M A LUXURY HOTEL GUY, BUT THIS IS A WONDERFUL HOTEL. DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A HOJO---MORE LIKE A MARRIOTT OR RADISSON. SAFE AREA, SECURE PARKING LOT WITH GUARD AND GATES. THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY AT THE NEWARK AIRPORT.
Convenient for airport stay - posted on 09/14/2006
This is a clean, safe place to spend the night before a flight. The price is right, the shuttle is reliable, food is available and the rooms are clean. For the price it can't be beat.

Extended my stay and was able to keep the same accomadation that was available only in person. Had to wait every time for the shuttle that needs to be more punctual.
PLEASED - posted on 08/06/2006
I arrived and the staff was helpful and pleasant. My room was very clean, I asked for a non-smoking king and that is what I got. Very pleased
good value - posted on 07/25/2006
I was impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel. The lobby and room were very nice. The only problem I had was the free shuttle. It runs in about 20 minute loops, and if you are in a hurry it is hard to predict. When asking how long it would be, the standard answer was 10 minutes. (always) Also waiting at the airport might take a while, but what do you expect for free. I took one taxi to the airport for $10, and one tried to charge me $25. I got him down to $20. All in all, the staff was courtious, and if you are looking for a cheap, clean palce, this one will do just fine.

In it's price category quite nice hotel. We got a suite instead of a regular room we had paid for.

The hotel was very, very clean and most of the customer service was good. The restaurant location is very convenient and the food was very good. All we ate had a good taste to it. The only bad thing was the very hard beds.

This is one mistake I won't make again. - posted on 01/24/2006
I think it started when the shuttle service to/from the airport was not complementary as it was in the rest of the civilized world. That fact was discreetly hidden in the print ads and never mentioned by the booking agents. Then, we were given a smoking room despite booking a non-smoking room. We were told none were available, but after I called whoever I booked with, a room miraculously appeared. The coffee stand -- by no stretch of the imagination a restaurant -- had a menu that was modest, with much to be modest about. Everything except the coffee was microwaved. The coffee -- they said it was brewed today -- was luke cool. The food was non-toxic and almost edible. We stayed there only because we had to catch an early morning flight. Next time the need arises, I know I will be more comfortable stretching out on some airport seats and eating from vending machines.
No bar - posted on 01/21/2006
I was VERY disappointed that you didn't have any bar facilities, nor served liquor of any kind. I wish someone would have told me this when I booked the room. Otherwise, everything was OK. Thanks for listening.

Very dirty rooms, says non smoking but you can smell the smoke and dirty sheets all the time. Very uncouth lady manager at the service desk.
Very Nice Hotel - posted on 12/29/2005
I arrived late at night, but the airport shuttle passes every 20 minutes picking up passengers. The staff was super friendly even at 1 am, and the room was clean and comfortable. Very nice & well kept hotel.
Unwarranted facility fee. - posted on 12/05/2005
The hotel staff are very friendly and cooperative/ kept clean/ not far from the airport. Only problem is you have to pay a facility fee ( parking ).
Head start - posted on 11/28/2005
This is a great low budget hotel that is clean and offers great amenities. The best part is the location, and ease of using their shuttle to the airport despite the fact they charge everyone a $15 facility fee for this.

A family member called the hotel to inquire about my return to the hotel from a New York Airport instead of Newark Airport due to change of travel plans. The front desk would not accommodate my family member as far as parking information. The family member only asked if I had picked my car without problems. The front desk clerk hung up on the caller.
Reasonable services at reasonable price - posted on 11/08/2005
This is a good choice if you want to have a quick access to Newark Airport. A US$15 daily fee will be charged for the parking and unlimited usage of airport shuttle. This shuttle will travel 3 times per hour between the hotel and the P4 (Parking 4) of Newark Airport. Major bus routes (e.g. to Penn station of NJ) are located at Terminal 1 of the airport.
Beware hidden charges - posted on 11/01/2005
Upon check-in, the desk staff will ask for a credit card imprint for incidentals. Upon checkout, you will be given a receipt for $30 per day charged to the credit card IN ADDITION to your prepaid reservation charges. This, they will curtly explain, is the charge for use of their parking lot and free airport shuttle, whether you actually used them or not. This facility charge was roughly 30 percent of my total bill.
Reasonable for budget travelers even with gotchas - posted on 09/23/2005
Bad: The $15 parking fee which they will charge even for people without cars who use the airport shuttle. Getting to NYC is a little inconvenient as you will have to go on the shuttle to the airport then take a train ride to Penn Central ($28 round trip). Also, surrounded by parking lots and there is nothing to see or eat or shop in walking distance. Good: the hotel rooms are really, really nice and have wired high speed internet (remember to bring your ethernet card).
Good & Cheap Stay if Going to NYC - posted on 08/05/2005
This hotel is good and cheap if you are traveling to NYC and want a nice but inexpensive place to stay. The staff was extremely nice and the rooms were nice and clean (we had two adjoining thanks to the staff). We hardly spend anytime in the room because we were touring, but if you want an extended stay hotel, this is not the place. This is good to rest and shower. The only thing that needs changing is the parking fee of $15 a day. Restaurant too expensive.
Parking Fee!?!? - posted on 07/26/2005
I was quite irritated to find that there was a $15.00 a day parking fee at the Johnson, the whole reason for staying out of the city was because this seemed like a better deal when in reality it came to about the same minus the convenience of being directly in downtown NY.
Not impressed - posted on 07/20/2005
We stayed in October and it was maybe 45 degrees the first nite we were there (we live in FL so we are not used to it) and the heat did not work in the room. We called front desk and were advised to turn the thermostat up to 90 in order to get the heat to work. Nothing happened after 15 minutes so we went down there only to be told "The heat has not been turned on yet, we do not turn it on until Nov. 1st". What?? This place is right by the airport (noisy) and the decor is bland and old.

Second time staying at this hotel. Room was clean, pretty, but too dark with only one small window. Lighting was extremely dim - not enough light to do any kind of writing without straining your eyes. Other than that, hotel staff and services provided were quite nice. A good value.
