Gateway Center Raymond Boulevard
Newark, NJ 07102-5107
Chain: Hilton Hotels and Resorts(U. S.)
For the business traveler or New York City vacationer, the Hilton Newark Gateway has an unbeatable location. Newark, NJ is home to many large state and corporate offices, as well as the NJPAC theatre and brand-new Prudential Center sports complex. Newark is also home to Rutgers University and New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry. Of course, this hotel's biggest perk is the super-easy commute to Penn Station, which is reachable through a connecting walkway. The Hilton Newark Gateway crafted with business travelers in mind. Private concierge rooms, wireless Internet and free continental breakfast and hors d'oeuvres are available, as well as high-end fitness facilities. However, those looking for luxurious surroundings may be in for a shock: even though Newark is modernizing, it's still rough around the edges. However, there is fun to be had after dark (check out QXT's nightclub on Mulberry Street for a diverse mix of Goths, preppies, and everything else). NYC is right at your doorstep.
Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?
The Hilton Newark Gateway is a traveler's dream due to proximity to NYC. However, the neighborhood is questionable after dark, and there have been problems with smoke odors. This hotel gets incredibly busy, so don't be surprised if there's a wait at the desk for rooms. Stories of overbooking are common. The staff is nice and accommodating, and will work with you to make sure that your stay is a success. The prime attribute of this hotel is location, location, location. People looking for a resort-type pampering experience will be frustrated with this hotel. The Hilton Newark Gateway is probably best left to business travelers and tourists with a full agenda.
