For the budget traveler, Econo Lodge Carlstadt is an easy option for a cheap stay near New York City. Carlstadt, located near the Meadowlands Sports Complex and the Secaucus Outlets (now past their heyday), can look a bit rough around the edges. However, it's close proximity to several major highways and the Big Apple are probably the biggest selling points. Tourists without cars can take buses to NYC and local shopping centers. There is little to do in the area at night other than a couple of bars and strip clubs, so be prepared to journey out in order to find amusement.

The decor is dated, making this Econo Lodge more of a "place to put your head down" than a place to unwind.
