Portsmouth’s popularity increased when its Naval Shipyard came into existence. Although the shipyard still exists today, this great town has much more to offer repairing ships. Located on the banks of the Piscataqua River Portsmouth has a variety of activities for you to enjoy the water. If you don’t find enough to do on this side cross over the Memorial Bridge and you’ll find yourself in Maine, which is also known for its many water sports. Although there isn’t a lot of beach directly in Portsmouth, it is very close to many great beaches as well as historic lighthouses. Portsmouth does provide you with beautiful golf courses, wonderful museums and remarkable homes. The Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion is a perfect example of the care put into restoring these splendid houses. Something Portsmouth has perfected is brewing its refreshing ales. Take a tour of the distilleries in town and enjoy.
