Customer Reviews for Grand Sierra Resort and Casino

Pet friendly - posted on 01/20/2006

Our dogs enjoyed prancing through the lavish lobby. Check in was fast and efficient. Guests with dogs must stay on the 3rd floor which is the smoking level. No view. Rooms are clean and large. Long way to walk the dogs, but we've stayed twice and would do it again. Asiana restaurant was very good!

I stayed last night at the GSR. I was pleasantly surprised at the the room upgrades. Very classy. Dining at DOLCE was also a treat. We will return.

Will be nice once remodeled but for now NO POOL ALL SUMMER. Removed RV and RV Store! Half the dining is under remodel! Pricey for what you expect in the Reno market. Wish Hlton would buy it back!

killed by smoke - posted on 05/09/2007

A fine place for smokers but the rest of us stay away!!!! Construction was tolerable, rooms were adequate but the smoke was terrible. Seems to have given no thought to 80% of population.

Remodel - posted on 04/09/2007

The rooms pictured on the web site were not the rooms offered. They are trying to sell condos above the 11th floor. The hotel was also located near the airport, but away from the downtown action. A total remodel is going on. Be sure to visit the Auto museum & take the tour twice daily. Public transortation by bus to downtown is available (have exact change). There is a free Yellow Bus once you get down town.Riverwalk is nice, but not alot of shops. The art museum with Andy Worhal was a treat.

City in Itself - posted on 04/02/2007

Excellent vacation "City"! There is a 50 lane bowling alley, and shops galore. The steak restaurant was divine, and there are restaurants for everyone including TexMex, Johnny Rockets, Italian, Buffet, Coffee Shop, etc. We raced go carts, played in the arcade and laser tag center. Don't forget the outside pool hall, inside golf training center and they are building an indoor water park. A bus takes you skiiing, etc. Highly recommend for lots of fun!!!!!

The loud hotel. - posted on 03/22/2007

The A/C rattled and never seem to work at all. Called but never had anyone come up to fix the problem. No internet in the room. They do have a cable in the room but it was out of service during our stay. If it did work they were going to charge us by the day for its use. The free internet is wireless in the lobby.

Neither Grand, nor in the Sierras - posted on 03/21/2007

Off the interstate in Reno, this is just a giant casino/hotel. Rooms are clean, but dated. Certainly not grand. Waited 30 minutes to check in--ridiculous. Left my cell phone charger in the room and the found it promptly--very good service.

Great renovation of Hilton - posted on 03/21/2007

This hotel, formerly the Reno Hilton, has been redone and is fantastic. Our room was clean, comfortable, quiet and high-class, including flat-screen tvs, leather furniture etc. Work is still in progress but it already looks great and I can't wait to see the finished product!!

The staff was great. The hotel is going through some changes but they will all be for the best. The rooms were very clean. The complex offered a bowling alley and movie theature.

Not worth the price - posted on 01/09/2007

We booked one of the "condos," it turns out the "condo" we received was what seemed to be a regular sized room with a bigger fridge. Bathroom was nice though ...

Nicely remodeled - posted on 12/26/2006

This used to be the Hilton Reno. It's a bit off the main downtown area where all the casinos are, but not too far away. The rooms are very nice. However the hotel is still under renovation and the hallways, and outside of the hotel are not clearly marked. Also, the casino is kind of boring.

Reservation process needs improvement - posted on 11/30/2006

Although we had a non-smoking room which was beautiful, we could smell cigarette smoke all night. They also didn''t have our Reservation number and had to call. They did upgrade us to a suite but it was a bit of a hassle at first when they couldn't find it.

Lovely - posted on 09/06/2006

Hotel is in an excellent location close enough to all of Reno's attractions, yet not in the midst of them so that you're in the middle of traffic. It is large, family friendly, and very comfortable. Service was quick and excellent. I would stay there again.

The best in Reno - posted on 07/03/2006

Outstanding stay - as it has been on previous occasions. A rumor is around that Hilton has sold the hotel - what a loss that would be!

Above expectations - posted on 06/02/2006

Having never been to Reno before, choosing the Hilton was our only consideration. Was disappointed to learn our discounted rate from AAA wouldn't received my HHonors points. Rooms were nice, buffet was expensive, so we ate downtown. Tried Chevy's on night, waitress couldn't even get our drink order right. When we told her we wouldn't be staying for dinner, she said she didn't blame us. OK place to stay with plenty of parking, but we gambled downtown and at Peppermill and Atlantis.

Was it Worth It? - posted on 01/17/2006

The hotel needs some work and they are trying to complete it. The un-renovated rooms are clean, but the beds are not very comfortable. The staff is not friendly or very accomodating. It is a short trip from downtown, which is nice because it is quieter than the ones on the strip. We had requested a king room and ended up with a room with two double beds, were moved to a room with two king beds on a lower floor. The room is not the one in the picture, so don't expect that. But, the room was clean and offered a nice view of the airport. The planes will wake you very early!!

Great hotel, but poor customer service - posted on 09/21/2005

I don't normally stay at Hilton hotels but due to the time of year this was really the only hotel that had rooms. The room itself was great, large and well-appointed; the employees however were surley throughout.

OK but not great - posted on 09/15/2005

Had to be stubborn at check in to get the room type we'd reserved. Typical of some casino/hotels. "Upgraded" room was large but seemed dusty - OK, but not great. Needed more pillows-they were flat. Restaurants were good, especially Chevy's. Casino area depressing. Tightest slots I've ever seen! Got one payoff in three days. Hotel is far from downtown or any other hotel; don't expect to walk anywhere. Definitely less than expected for a Hilton.

Hot August Nights - posted on 08/11/2005

Our room was basic--no coffee maker, no safe. Turn down service was only that--they turned the covers down and left a chocolate. They didn't replenish towels. This particular weekend, the crowd in the casino and restaurants seemed especially "thuggy." Noone was obnoxious or threatening (except in his appearance), but it did serve to lower the tone of my experience. Every single employee I dealt with was exceptionally helpful and friendly, from the front desk to the keno hostess. But I will probably stay somewhere else the next time I go to Reno.

Great for families - posted on 06/16/2005

The hotel/rooms are very nice and there's lots of things to do for everyone in the family. Only bad experiences were at the Johnny Rockets restaurant where the service was terrible (twice). Overall it was a great experience.

Everything cost at this hotel. Local phone call are a dollar, internet 10.99, drinks when your gambling, and most of the employee's are pretty rude.

I enjoyed my stay at the Reno Hilton. It's not close to any other casino but it's got everything you need for a weekend stay. Easy with a car.
