The location of this monument marks the dusty trail used by Wells Fargo, the Railroad and the interstate that exists today. Kearney is also a haven for nature lovers and nature itself. During the spring the Platte River becomes a stopover for hundreds of thousands of migrating birds making their way back up to Canada. It is quite spectactular to see.
