Meridian allows you to step back in time at the Causeyville Store. For over 100 years this general store continues to grind its own corn and make its own cheese. Watching how it was done back then helps you enjoy the tastes even more today. In fact, most of Meridian is dotted with historical buildings that showcase the era they were built in. If you’re interested in seeing a bunch in one place, head downtown where there is a great collection of history.
Built in the late 1800s, the Highland Park Dentzel Carousel is a national treasure. The hand carved horses and artistic paintings that adorn the actual structure are beautiful. It’s no surprise then to find beautifully decorated carousel horses throughout the city. There are over 50, each created by a different artist and thus making each one unique.
Jimmie Rogers, known as the Father of Country Music, was born and raised in Meridian. The museum built in his honor has a great collection of his memorabilia, including one of his original guitars. If you’re interested in the past and a country music fan too this is a definite must.
Those interested in the great outdoors should head over to Dunn’s Falls. Stretching over 60 feet, this amazing waterfall is a water lover’s playground. Once used as a power source for a corn mill, it has now become a great place to enjoy a BBQ, take a break from canoeing the Chunky River or, if you dare, climb up the falls. Bonita Lakes spans an impressive 3,300 acres, which gives you plenty of room to enjoy its features. The Long Creek Reservoir, walking paths, paddleboats, fishing and golf are only some of the great activities you can enjoy here.
Shopping in Meridian is a great time no matter what you’re looking for. The Bonita Lakes Mall is a fantastic shopping complex but there are great stores and boutiques located throughout the city.
