Step back in time at Owatonna’s Village of Yesteryear where nothing has changed since the 1850s. The statue that stands guard at the Mineral Springs Park is of Princess Owatonna. Legend says her father took her to the healing waters of the Straight River where she was cured. Rumors claim that it was a story to sell bottled water from the area. Whatever you believe it’s still a pretty neat tale. This park though is only one of many in the area. Plus there are numerous hiking and snowmobile trails. Make sure you pack all your outdoor equipment, or better yet head over to the Wal-Mart of outdoor gear. The Cabela’s is a massive store (150,000 square feet to be exact) that has anything and everything you’d need for your outdoor hobbies. There’s even a restaurant to get you refueled while you shop. Owatonna’s downtown has many beautiful buildings but the National Farmers Bank truly does stand out. The design, stained glass windows and arches showcase it as a fantastic example of architecture.
