The Amway Grand is plush and simply put - sheer luxury. The hotel itself has a mixture of both old and new.
The older side of the hotel houses the ballrooms, a few meeting rooms and hotel rooms. This side of the hotel is reminiscent of the Victorian era with beautiful chandeliers, gold ornamentation, soft pinks, and rich cherry wood doors.
The middle portion of the hotel is where the lobby area, bar, boutiques/galleries and guest services are housed. It is very open with an all glass front. Several years ago the hotel expanded and added "The Towers". This section is 29 floors with an all glass front. Thus patrons staying in this area get a wonderful view of the Grand Rapids skyline and the Grand River.
Does HotelsByCity recommend this hotel?
This is absolutely my favorite hotel in the whole wide world. Anytime my husband and I want to get away for the weekend, we head to the Amway Grand.

On the older/historical side of the hotel, the rooms are richly and elegantly decorated. They are a little larger than average and standardly come with a high post bed with a very firm mattress, television with armoire, and a small table with chairs. The bathrooms are also larger than normal and although this is the older side of the hotel, the bathrooms have been updated/remodeled.
The Towers is the newest side of the hotel. Staying in the Towers means that everything is "grand". The halls are very spacious and the rooms spread far apart. The furniture is exquisite with marble sinks and floors, and every room offers a great view of the city and Grand River. The greatest asset to staying in the Towers is access to the Tower Club Lounge. This is a suite for Tower guests only. In this room guests can read a magazine, play games such as checkers/chess/backgammon, or just enjoy the view while sitting in front of the cozy fireplace. There is also a refrigerator stocked with complimentary soft drinks and juices. Guests also receive a continental breakfast each morning (the menu includes fresh fruit, freshly baked muffins, assorted juices, cereal, yogurt, and even omelets), and complimentary cocktails/hors d'oeuvres in the evening.
The Amway Grand Plaza is filled with great amenities for you to enjoy. Those who need to do a little business while here can enjoy the services available especially for them. Stay in shape at the Fitness Center and use the indoor pool, outdoor tennis courts and racquetball court. You can relax those muscles in one of two hot tubs. Indulge at the fantastic Artistry Beauty Institute Spa. There are six dining options for you to enjoy but for that special night out you should dine at the fabulous 1913 Room. You’ll need to make reservations though – this is one hot commodity. Although Boston has a number of great shopping venues, the Amway Grand Plaza has its fair share as well. Some examples include Boutique Emmanuel, the Grand Gallery, Eastern Floral and Gifts and Paul Collins Fine Art. Also, the concierge service at this hotel is top-notch.
The hotel is located in Downtown Grand Rapids and is easily accessible from US 131 and I-196.
From US 131 take the Pearl Street exit. Turn right on Pearl and then left on Monroe.
From I-196 take the Ottawa Avenue exit. Make a right onto Lyon Avenue and then a left on Monroe Avenue.
