Chain: Fairmont Hotels
If richly ornate décor and a Grand Ballroom in Louis XVI style is your cup of tea, the AAA Four Diamond Award Fairmont/Copley Plaza is your hotel. Named for the American painter, John Singleton Copley, and a hub of Boston social life, the hotel opened in 1912 on the original site of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts.
An extensive renovation of the historic Copley Plaza, home of Proper Bostonians’ legendary Waltz Evenings--where guests were famously greeted by a white-gloved Keeper of The List, inquiring, “Whom do you know?”--has made the Fairmont/Copley Plaza a standout.
These days, the Fairmont/Copley echoes Versailles with gilded splendor in French/Renaissance style. There’s even a hotel within the hotel called “Fairmont Gold,” with the utmost elegance and service for the most discriminating travelers.
Crystal chandeliers, baroque arches, marble floors and fine dining, with a prime location front and center in Copley Square, catty-corner from historic Trinity Church, the Boston Public Library and Copley Place shopping put this hotel on the "A" list for black tie do's.
The legendary Oak Room is a cozy place for a drink or bite to eat, with a festive buzz and New York ambiance.
