Biltmore: low-priced victorian lodgings - posted on 01/20/2006
The Biltmore has 19th century architecture and feel. It's not a modern, updated hotel but it was a good, reasonably priced place to stay. Our room had a kitchenette, which would have been nice if we were staying more than two nights. Located near the cultural district of Baltimore and the Maryland Institute College of Art, the Biltmore was convenient. The light rail is also only a few blocks away was. I'd stay there again, and would recommend the Biltmore to people who want a no frills hotel in a neighborhood with a Victorian feel.

The hotel looks like it was nice once-many years ago. Neighborhood is run down but hotel is within 1 block of the light rail system which is THE way to go to the inner harbor. Elevator was in/out of service and my son would have rather gone on the Tower of Terror at Disney rather than ride the elevator again. Room was on the 4th floor and in the mid summer the heat was nearly unbearable until the AC was turned on. Could be nice if a major renovation was done. Bed was comfortable. A light breakfast is included.

The staff is friendly and helpful;the hotel isn't in a good neighborhood. The hospital is 1 block away and also where you park your car. The place is very old and needs a major overhaul. The "elevator" is an old service lift, barely holds 2 people and isn't operational half the time, requiring you to climb the stairway to get to your floor. Poorly insulated and can be noisy. It's a long walk to the ballpark and inner harbor (10 blocks), but is close to the light rail system. If you're looking for a nice, modern and comfortable hotel close to the inner harbor, choice someplace else!

Aside from all the boarded up store fronts, and not being able to get a cab to stop without calling ahead..., I'm sure this place was wonderful in the 30's.

The hotel was very quant. If you are on a budget and want a hotel room that doesn't look like every other hotel room - stay here. The lady working at the desk was very sweet with helping us get a cab to the inner harbor (only about 6.50).
